Reprogramming File Availability for Oil Level Detection – 2014-2015 Subaru Forester 2.5L

NUMBER: 11-148-14R
DATE: 10/28/14
REVISED: 03/25/15

APPLICABILITY: 2014-15MY Forester 2.5L NA Models
SUBJECT: Reprogramming File Availability for Oil Level Detection

INTRODUCTION

This bulletin announces the availability of reprogramming files and a revised oil level switch to optimize the ECM logic for engine oil level detection in the event of false or premature low engine oil level warning lamp illumination.  Should a customer present a concern with a low engine oil warning lamp illumination and the diagnosis indicate the oil level is full or nearly full (oil level between the full and add marks/holes on the dipstick) and the customer has not added any engine oil, the ECM must be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch replaced.  The new oil level switch part number supplied in this bulletin must be used.  If the customer has added oil, determine how much was added.  Based upon the information provided, estimate where the oil level was when the lamp illuminated in order to determine if additional action is required beyond what is described in this bulletin (e.g an oil consumption test).  The ECM must still be updated with this new logic and the oil level switch replaced.

INTRODUCTION

NOTE:  The information in this bulletin was originally part of TSB 11-149-14 but has been separated out into this publication to simplify applicability and the corresponding service procedure.

This bulletin announces the availability of reprogramming files to optimize the ECM logic for engine oil level detection in the event of false or premature low engine oil level warning lamp illumination.  Should a customer present a concern with a low engine oil warning lamp illumination and the diagnosis indicate the oil level is full or nearly full (oil level between the full and add marks/holes on the dipstick) and the customer has not added any engine oil, the ECM must be updated with this new logic.  NOTE:  On 5MT models ONLY, the oil level switch must also be replaced.  If the customer has added oil, determine how much was added.  Based upon the information provided, estimate where the oil level was when the lamp illuminated in order to determine if any additional action is required beyond what is described in this bulletin (e.g  an oil consumption test).

Wind Rushing Sound from the Front Door Sash Area – 2015-2016 Subaru Legacy & Outback

NUMBER: 12-176-14R
DATE: 12/05/14
REVISED: 10/28/15

APPLICABILITY: 2015-16MY Legacy and Outback Models
SUBJECT: Service Procedure to Address a Wind Rushing Sound from the Front Door Sash Area

INTRODUCTION

This bulletin provides a service procedure to address customer concerns of a wind rushing-type sound which seems to come from the front door glass sash area.  Customers may report a concern with one or both front doors.  It is only necessary to address the side with the confirmed condition.  The door glass sash separates the main door glass from the small partition glass on each door.  The procedure involves replacement of the front door glass run channel (weatherstrip), partition glass/ weatherstrip, sash and both the inner and outer door glass weatherstrips (sweeps).  In addition, two pre-cut pieces of self-adhesive EPT foam, 1 piece of non-woven tape (will be cut into 3 pieces) and a 320mm section of butyl (adhesive rubber) sealing material will be added in specific locations.  To address a customer concern of a fluttering-type sound coming from the B-pillar area at highway speeds, see TSB 12-185-15 for installation of the 320mm section of butyl tape only.
