INTRODUCTION:
This bulletin provides a procedure for replacing the
rear combination lamp wiring harness. The harness is
now available as a service part separate from the lamp
assembly.
PART INFORMATION:
The wiring harness part number is: 84981VA140.
REMINDERS:
• Always order the most up-to-date replacement parts based on the specific VIN being
repaired.
• The packing (gasket) between the lamp assembly and the rear body panel is a one-time use
item and MUST be replaced whenever the lamp assembly is removed.
SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs.
Although the procedure for replacing the combination lamp wiring harness is new, the Service
Manual procedure for removing and installing the complete lamp assemblies is unchanged. The
existing Service Manual procedures contain information critical to performing an effective repair the
first time and every time. This includes but is not limited to: important SAFETY precautions, proper
inspection criteria, necessary special tools, required processes and related one-time-use parts needed
for a complete and lasting repair.

• Remove the affected lamp assembly following the
procedure in the applicable Service Manual.
• Remove the gasket to access the harness and the
foam block (packing) shown in the photo.
• Disconnect the LED harness connector then remove the
bulb socket assemblies. Transfer the bulbs over to the new
harness.

IMPORTANT: Before the harness can be removed from the lamp housing, a portion of the
connector lock must be CAREFULLY trimmed away. Use a good, sharp wire cutter as shown below
while being careful to not damage the tab portion of the housing the connector slides and locks back
onto.
• Install the new harness onto the housing and re-assemble in reverse order of removal.
REMINDER: Don’t forget to reinstall the foam block (packing) and always use a new lamp
to body gasket.
• Confirm all the functions of the combination lamp operate normally to complete the
procedure.
