| SUBJECT: | Rear Frame and Stabilizer Bar Bracket Mounting Bolt- Design Changes |
INTRODUCTION:
This Service Information Bulletin outlines design changes made to the rear frame section weld nuts and the mounting bolts used to secure the rear stabilizer bar brackets to them. The mounting bolts and the weld nuts incorporated into the rear frame sections used for securing the stabilizer bar brackets have both been revised to enhance torque retention. In addition, a new torque sequence procedure has been developed and can be found on Page 3 of this bulletin. Replacement of the bolts and/or brackets is not necessary as the original bolts are reusable. Always use the bolt(s) intended for use with the original factory installation as they are not interchangeable.
PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:
The new components were incorporated into production starting with the following VINs:
- Impreza: TBD
- Crosstrek: KH399005
- Forester: LH435064

REMINDER:
Always order the most up-to-date replacement parts based on the specific VIN being repaired.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The new Flange Bolts listed in the table on pg. 1 are NOT compatible with weld nuts used in the original frames. Using the new-style Flange Bolts on the original frames will damage the weld nuts.
- The original Flange Bolts (p.n. 010108200) are reusable and readily available if needed.
- The new Flange Bolts (p.n. 20058FL010) have a special lubricant applied to their threads and are now One-Time use items.
- There have been no changes to the part numbers of the stabilizer bar brackets.
SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs.
NOTES:
- When reusing the ORIGINAL style flange bolts, the torque specification is unchanged (35 Nm / 25.8 ft. lbs.) but, the proper torque sequence supplied below MUST be followed. Replacement is not necessary as the original bolts are reusable.
- NEVER reuse the new style flange bolts as they are one-time use items.
- When using the New-Style flange bolts, the torque specification is unchanged (35 Nm / 25.8 ft. lbs.) but, the proper torque sequence supplied below MUST be followed:
NEW TORQUE SEQUENCE
- Temporarily tighten (snug) the front flange bolt (1) then the rear flange bolt (2).
- Torque bolt (1) to 35 Nm / 25.8 ft. lbs. then the rear bolt (2) to the same value.
- Re-check both bolts in the same sequence for proper torque.
Aside from the stabilizer bar bracket bolt torque sequence outlined above, the service procedures for frame rail and stabilizer bar bracket repairs remain unchanged. FRAME RAIL REPLACEMENT IS NOT NECESSARY UNLESS ANY OF THE WELD NUTS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AND CANNOT BE REUSED. Always refer to the applicable Body Repair Manual and Service Manual to review the full requirements of the repair being performed. These publications contain information critical to performing an effective repair the first time, every time. This includes but is not limited to important SAFETY precautions, required processes and related One-Time use parts needed for a complete and lasting repair.
