Important precautions are indicated with the following marks. Be sure to observe those precautions. ~ Warning Precautions that you must observe for your safety. [Failure to observe these precautions may result in death or serious injury.] ~ Caution Precautions that you must observe for your safety and for your vehicle. [Failure to observe these precautions may result in damages or accidents.] * Advice Information that you should familiarize yourself with. Information that are useful. ~ Warning · Never attempt to modify this product. This may damage the product and may become cause of serious accidents. · Be sure to stop the engine during work for safety reasons. · Be sure to tighten bolts and nuts firmly. · Inspect the nuts and bolts after the first 60 miles (100 km) of driving after attaching them. Re-tighten them if necessary. · If abnormal noise or vibration occurs while driving, pull over the car immediately to a safe place, and then inspect and re-tighten the attaching bolts. If abnormalities persist, perform inspection and make necessary repairs immediately. · If you continue to drive in this condition, damages or accidents may occur. ·Stop using this product immediately it it has defects such as deterioration and breakage, or receives a strong impact, as these conditions impair the product’s original performance. · Make sure that no part comes in contact with the battery while working. Also make sure to adhereto the precautions described in this document. • If bolts and nuts are not tightened with specified torque while installing this product, they may be damaged or becomeloose. Installation Instructions WARNING Link Ball Do not disassemble. Stiffener Main Body Do not disassemble. Do not tamper with. Do not disassemble the Stiffener’s main body, as it has been tightened with the specified torque after the sealant is applied for waterproofing and dustproofing treatment. Disassembling it forcibly may result in damage. In addition, the connection between the Stiffener’s main body and the link ball is torquecontrolled before shipping. Do not overtighten them or they may be damaged. If you have done so, replace the part with a new one. 1. Specification By applying tensile force to the vehicle body, the hysteresis of the vehicle body caused by input from the rear suspension is removed and steering delay is reduced. 4. Installation Precautions Lt Warning · For safety purposes, always turn off the engine and ignition while ogerating. And disconnect the neaative terminal of the battery before you start working on installation of the product. · Alwavs tiahten bolts and nuts firmlv. Lt Caution · The contents of this manual is designed for automobile mechanics or those who have basic knowledgeabout automobile maintenance. Do not let inexperienced persons to work alone, as it could cause the vehicle to undergo dangerous troubles during driving. To install the product properly for it to function as intended, it is recommended to perform the installation procedure at an authorized SUBARU retailer. · Be sure to perform the work in accordance with the service manual for the relevant model issued by SUBARU CORPORATION. and observe the precautions in this manual. · Tighten bolts and nuts according to specified torque. If not tightened with specified torque, the bolts 5. Simultaneous Replacement and Non-reusable Parts Nuts and bolts must be replaced in accordance with the service manual issued by Subaru Corporation. 6. Work Procedure Make sure to follow instructions in the service manual issued by SUBARU CORPORATION for replacement instructions of related detachable parts when installing this kit. *An example of the right-hand side of the vehicle is shown in this section. The work should be carried out in the same way on the left-hand side. Overview of an Installed Flexible Draw Stiffener Rear UPR ~RH * The above diagram is for reference only and the shape and location of peripheral parts may vary depending on thE vehicle specifications. 3 A: Introduction 1) Prepare the following items Scissors and cutter knife 6 and 12 mm spanners Tape 12 mm thin spanner Marker pen 12 mm socket 2) Cut out the pattern along the alignment and trim cut lines. I Trim Cut Line I Alignment Line B: Processing of Trim Panel – Trunk Side 1) Remove the trunk mat. 2) Removal of the Trim Panel – Trunk Rear 1. Remove the 3 clips on the front side of the vehicle. Torque wrench Interior removal products Ruler Pattern 2. Remove the Trim Panel – Trunk Rear while disengaging the locking clips. 3) Removal of the Trim Panel – Trunk Side Remove the 5 clips and then the Trim Panel – Trunk Side. / , •.. . I ~i ® 4 4) Tape the alignment line of the pattern along the outline of the trim and mark along the pattern. Marking Alignment Line Pattern 5) Remove the pattern and tapes, and cut the Trim Panel – Trunk Side along the marking. Marking *ADVICE – Do not cut the sound-absorbing material behind the Trim Panel – Trunk Side. 6) Attachment of EPT-Sealers Apply EPT-Sealers to the cut area as shown below. The paste margin must be 3mm, with large EPT-Sealers on the front side of the vehicle and small EPT-Sealers on the rear side. EPT-Sealer EPT-Sealer UPR Ft-+ 3m ~ Ft Arrow View (A) 5 C: Removal of the rear quarter trim 1) Remove the clips and detach the Trim Panel – Rear Pillar UPR. r;;;~ ~ © c;v c]) 2) Removal of the rear seat cushion. 1. Push the seat cushion in the direction of (1) and lift the seat cushion in the direction of (3) while pulling the knob (2) to remove the hooks. “}’· (.:f.1 ~jl -~I – I ( I) ‘ (3) … . Lift the front side of the seat cushion to free the seat cushion from the hooks (A). 6 WARNING ·A sensor for the airbag system is installed underneath the rear seat cushion. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and wait at least 60 seconds before starting work. ·Avoid impacting the airbag sensor underneath the rear seat cushion. Failure to do so may result in malfunction or failure of the sensor. 6 3) Remove the clip and disengage the locking clips to detach the Cover Side Sill – Rear. 7Fi\ C-C lH) ~ CAUTION • Do not forcibly pull the cover. It may damage the locking clips. 4) Remove the clips and detach the Trim Panel – Rear Pillar LWR. 7 D: Mounting brackets 1) Temporarily fasten the bracket to the body of the vehicle using a nut plate. UPR Ft -l * ADVICE – The nut plate should be used with the notch facing down. – Use the nut plate with the spacers facing the body of the vehicle. Spacer Notch 2) Tighten the temporarily fastened bolts while adjusting the gap (A) between the bracket and the body of the vehicle to 8 to 12 mm. UPR Bracket RH .l Tightening Torque: 30Nm 8 E: Installation of Draw Stiffener 1) Check the length of the Draw Stiffener. Stiffener’s Main Body Locknut Link Ball Distance between the centers of the studs: 620mm Lb. WARNING • Do not disassemble or retighten the Stiffener’s main body. The Stiffener’s main body is tightened with the specified torque after applying sealant, so it may be damaged if it is disassembled or retightened. If you have done so, replace the part with a new one. 2) Place a washer between the Draw Stiffener’s main body and the bracket, and fix it temporarily. 3) Tighten the nut. Draw Stiffener Lb. WARNING Nuts and bolts must be securely fastened with the specified torque. Lb. Caution Be careful not to damage the link ball dust boot (grease leakage may happen). It is recommended to use a thin spanner to prevent biting by the spanner. If they are not tightened securely, there is a risk of abnormal noise or dislocation. * ADVICE – The distance between the stud centers is adjusted to 620 mm at the time of shipment, but if they do not fit the holes in the brackets when temporarily fastened, loosen the locknut and rotate the link ball to adjust the length. 9 F: Adjustment of Stiffener 1) Loosen the locknut while holding the rod down with a spanner to prevent it from turning. 2) Turn the rod with a spanner etc. to adjust the distance between the end face of the Stiffener and the rod groove to 5 mm. 1) Locknut “” 2) Rotate to adjust the distance. mm Rod Groove -mrmr111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111m 50 40 30 20 10 l’——-<._ _j___’—-~ 11d1111l1111l11 Lh CAUTION · Do not apply any other adjustment value than the specified one for the distance between the Stiffener end face and the rod groove. • Forced adjustments may not only deteriorate the performance of the product, but may also damage this product and the vehicle. 3) Make sure that the thread on the rod side of the locknut is 1 (the thread is visible) to 14mm. 1 (the thread is visible) – 14mm L’.h CAUTION • If it is not in the above range, the screw may be damaged, so correct the bracket mounting position and readjust it to be within the specified range. 10 4) Use a spanner to avoid putting a load on the link ball and tighten the locknut with the specified torque. Hold it in place with a spanner so that no load is applied to the link ball. Locknut Tightening Torque: 6Nm Hold it in place with a spanner so that no load is applied to the link ball. Lt. WARNING Nuts and bolts must be securely fastened with the specified torque. If they are not tightened securely, noise may be generated or driving conditions may become unstable, which could result in an accident. G: Restoration 1) Install the Trim Panel – Rear Pillar LWR in the reverse procedure to removal. 2) Installation of the Trim Panel – Trunk Side Attach the Trim Panel – Trunk Side in the reverse procedure to removal. To install the Trim Panel – Trunk Side, pass the bracket through the area cut in step A and maintain the gap sealed with EPT-Sealer, as shown below. UPR Ft J_ 11 3) Installation of the Cover Side Sill – Rear Attach the Cover Side Sill – Rear in the reverse procedure to removal. 4) Installation of the rear seat cushion. Mount the rear seat cushion in the reverse procedure to removal. 5) Installation of the Trim Panel – Rear Pillar UPR Attach the Trim Panel – Rear Pillar UPR in the reverse procedure to removal. 6) Installation of the Trim Panel – Trunk Rear Attach the Trim Panel – Trunk Rear in the reverse procedure to removal. 7) Reinstall the trunk mat. I To customers Handling Precautions Lt Warning · If abnormal noise or vibration occurs while driving, pull over the car immediately to a safe place, and then inspect and re-tighten the attaching bolts. If abnormalities persist, perform inspection and make necessary repairs immediately. If you continue to drive in this condition, damages or accidents may occur. • Inspect the nuts and bolts after the first 60 miles (100 km) of driving and periodically after attaching them. Re-tighten them if necessary. · Please do not use this product for other than applicable models. Caution · We recommend that this product be installed at an authorized Subaru
maintenance facility to ensure proper installation and function. · When removing the flexible tower bar from the vehicle, place the support on the under side of the bar so that the center part (rubber boot) does not bend. · Do not remove the rubber boot from the center spherical bearing. 12
