INTRODUCTION
This bulletin announces the availability of revised valve train components developed to reduce a tapping sound (sometimes described as โa sewing machine typeโ sound) which may be heard coming from the left-hand (B2) side of the engine when the engine is warm. This bulletin does not address any cold engine or start-up sounds. The changes consist of:
- Design change to the valve rockers
- Camshaft profile change
- 65mm longer intake and 2.45mm longer exhaust valve stem lengths
- Revised rocker pivots were incorporated at the start of 2014MY production

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION
If you receive a customer concern of a tapping sound from the B2 cylinder head, confirm it is isolated to the B2 valve train area before proceeding with any repairs. Once verified, order and replace the intake and exhaust camshafts, the 4 intake valves, 4 exhaust valves, and all 8 rockers. Refer to the service procedures outlined in the applicable Service Manual for installation.
NOTE: When setting the valve clearances, the intakes should be set to 0.13mm +0.02 / – 0.03 and the exhausts set to 0.22mm +/- 0.02. These are revised clearance specifications and are not reflected in the Service Manual.
IMPORTANT: Do not mix old and new parts together as it will become impossible to obtain intake valve clearances that are within specification.
TIP: An egg carton makes a perfect organizer tray. Make sure to mark it as necessary (front, intake, exhaust) to eliminate any mixing of parts.

- 6X better wear protection on critical engine parts than industry standards**
- 1.3X better sludge protection than industry standards*
- 3X Stronger against viscosity breakdown than leading full synthetic^
- Protection for 10,000 miles between oil changes
- Meets or exceeds the following specifications: API SP/SN PLUS/SN | ILSAC GF-6 | GM dexos1 Gen 3 | Meets Ford WSS-M2C947-B1 | Meets Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 |
- Advanced protection against the four main causes of engine breakdown: wear friction heat and deposits
- Delivers 40% stronger wear protection than industry standards to reduce friction and improve fuel economy
- Provides 15% better deposit defense vs. industry standards, keeping engines cleaner for smoother performance and longer-lasting protection
- Up to 2.5X better heat protection vs. industry standards to fight harmful sludge formation and thermal breakdown
- Engineered for excellent low-temperature flow, reducing metal-to-metal contact during cold starts โ when most engine wear typically occurs
- 3X Stronger than the leading full synthetic*
- 10X Better high stress performance**
- 20,000 miles between oil changes***
- Viscosity breakdown as measured in Kurt Orbahn test on 5W-30 grade
- As measured in Seq IX test under high load/torque conditions vs. API SQ test limits
- Full synthetic formula is engineered with Enhanced MaxLife Technology to prevent engine breakdown in vehicles with over 75,000 miles
- Formulated with seal conditioners to prevent and treat oil leaks, Valvoline Full Synthetic High Mileage minimizes oil consumption and maximizes engine life
