| SUBJECT: | Lug Nut Wax Removal |
INTRODUCTION
In response to requests received from the field, this bulletin provides information regarding a Genuine Subaru
Chemical product which may be used for removal of lug nut wax residue. Lug nut wax is applied as part of the vehicle manufacturing process to protect the chrome finish of the lug nuts from the elements during transit and storage. While transparent in color, if not properly or completely removed, it will likely bleed onto the finish of the wheel attracting dirt, brake dust and eventually can become unsightly as shown in the photos below.
This wax may be removed prior to vehicle delivery or at the request of the customer at any time. It should be noted that with removal of this product, the owner/ driver should be made aware of the need to maintain the finish of the chrome plated lug nuts as part of normal appearance maintenance of the vehicle.
PART INFORMATION
Combining the Subaru
Concentrated Cleaner and Degreaser (p.n. SOA868V9370 and available through the Subaru
Chemical Program) with a NON-METALLIC bristle lug nut brush will provide the agitation and sufficient abrasiveness for removing the wax coating from the lug nuts and alloy wheels. Brushes similar to the examples shown below are readily available from most aftermarket auto parts retailers or on-line sources (e.g. Amazon.com). When using the product at full-strength (undiluted and straight from the bottle), always avoid prolonged contact with the wheels and / or painted surface as damage to the finish may result. When using on alloy wheels, it is best to completely clean one wheel at a time. Keep the surface wet during the entire process and do not allow the cleaner to dry on any surfaces. Clean the surfaces thoroughly with a mild soap solution (hand car wash soap) and plenty of clean water after obtaining the desired results. Because this industrial-strength product is super-concentrated, always follow the dilution recommendations on the bottle for your intended use. While a full-strength application may be used with appropriate care by professional detailers (see precautions below), a 1:10 dilution is highly recommended for ease of use.
IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS:
- Allow the wheels to fully cool to room temperature before applying the cleaner.
- Avoid application in direct sunlight as this will cause the product to dry out more quickly.
- Never allow the product (full strength or diluted) to dry on alloy wheels, glass, plastic or painted surfaces as this may result in permanent damage to the surface.
- Use caution to avoid getting overspray of this product on surrounding surfaces. Clean any affected surfaces using a mild soap solution (hand car wash soap) and plenty of clean water.
- Before using any Genuine Subaru
chemical product, always review the related MSDS found on: Subarunet > Fixed Ops – Inventory / Ops > Subaru
