INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
PART NUMBER: E721SAN031XX
DESCRIPTION: Legacy – Trunk Spoiler
STEP 1: Clean trunk lid with isopropyl alcohol and a soft clean cloth towel.
STEP 2: Open the trunk lid. Using a flat head screwdriver, remove the 12 (twelve) clips and remove the liner.
STEP 3: Close trunk. Lay mylar template on trunk lid. Use the two corner arrows to align and center template.
Tape template flat to trunk lid.
STEP 4: Use a spring loaded center punch to mark all 7 (seven) hole locations.
STEP 5: Open trunk lid and lay down a disposable cloth or plastic sheet to protect the trunk area and catch any metal shavings. Remove template and confirm all 7 (seven) punch marks are visible. Close trunk lid.
STEP 6 – See STEP 6A if using a metric step drill bit. Skip to 6B if using an SAE step drill bit.
STEP 6A: Metric Hole Drilling: Use tape to mark the stopping position on the step drill bit. Drill the 7 (seven) hole locations according to the sizes as shown below.
STEP 6B – SAE Hole Drilling: Use tape to mark the stopping position on the step drill bit. Drill the 7 (seven) hole locations according to the sizes as shown below.
STEP 7: Deburr holes. Vacuum trunk lid. CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch the vehicle’s paint.
Open trunk, carefully dispose of cloth or sheet and vacuum trunk area.
Apply rust preventative (or touch up paint) and wait 30 minutes.
STEP 8: Use the supplied alcohol wipes to clean the surface of the trunk lid where the spoiler will be installed.
STEP 9: Insert the white clips into the trunk lid first. Then line up spoiler but DO NOT press the spoiler down yet.
STEP 10: Carefully align the 8mm (5/16”) locating pin and studs with the holes in the trunk lid.
CAUTION: Take extra care with aligning the outboard T-bolts with the white clips from Step 9.
STEP 11: When ready, position hands over the RH clip and press down vertically to engage the clips. You will hear a series of clicks. Then proceed to the LH clip and make sure the T-bolt is still aligned with the clip. Press down to engage the clips. You will hear a series of click.
CAUTION: Failure to align the T-bolt to the white clip can cause the white clip to be damaged and pressed into the hole.
STEP 12: Open trunk lid and install the 4 (four) compression nuts. Loosely tighten all 4x nuts then torque using the following sequence below.
Torque: 5.65 +/- 0.40 N•m (50 in-lbs +/- 3 in-lbs).
STEP 13: Close trunk lid and firmly press down again on locations #1 and #2 to ensure white clips are fully engaged.
STEP 14: Clean trunk lid and spoiler.
STEP 15: Press the rear seatback lock release button on both ends of the rear seat. Fold seats down.
STEP 16: Open the trunk. Start on the right-hand side of the trunk. Turn hook 90º, press tab using a screwdriver and then detach. Use clip remover to remove 4x clips. Save clips for reuse, replace if damaged. Clip Part Number: 99045AE03AMA
STEP 17: Repeat for the left-hand side.
STEP 18: Locate the Emergency Fuel Door Release Cover on the right-hand side trunk trim panel. Turn knob counter-clockwise and lift up to remove the cover.
STEP 19: Move release clip forward and then upward. Tuck it behind the trunk trim panel.
STEP 20: Fold and lift up the trunk mat and remove from vehicle.
STEP 21: Remove the 2x side spacers and middle trunk subassembly from vehicle.
STEP 22: Remove three clips with clip remover (pull towards front of vehicle). Save clips for reuse, replace if damaged. Clip Part Number: 99045AE03AMA. Then lift panel upwards to disengage the four claws (claws are hidden under panel, two are shown in diagram below).
STEP 23: Go to the right-hand side of the backseat. Carefully loosen the trunk trim panel from the seat pillar trim and then shift it towards the center of the vehicle (1) to clear the striker and then slightly shift it towards the rear (2).
STEP 24: Gently bend the trunk trim panel by the trunk hinge and pull the entire trunk trim panel rearward to remove it from the vehicle.
Repeat Steps 23-24 on the opposite side.
STEP 25: For vehicles with trunk mounted seatback release handles. Use needle nose pliers to gently squeeze the locking tabs in the release cable mounting clip and remove from bracket.
STEP 26: Turn the release handle 90° towards the outside of the vehicle and pull down to remove. Repeat Steps 25-26 on the opposite side.
STEP 27: Install the adjustable trunk support rod extending from the spare tire well area to the trunk lid.
WARNING: If the adjustable support rod is not securely installed, the trunk lid can fall when the torsion bars are removed and cause severe injury to the installer and/or damage to the vehicle.
STEP 28: Locate the bracket clip at the center of the trunk and open it by releasing the tab in the front and then swinging the bracket rearward to open.
NOTE: Take notice of the order of the torsion bars in the bracket before proceeding.
STEP 29: CAUTION: The next few steps must be performed carefully with the specified torsion bar removal tool. Failure to use the proper tool can result in severe injuries and/or damage to the vehicle. Due to this, it is strongly recommended that this product be installed by a Subaru
retailer.
Left Hand (LH) Torsion Bar Removal: With the special tool securely in place and safety pin engaged, rotate tool downward to apply tension to the LH torsion bar on the right-hand side of the vehicle.
STEP 30: While tensioning the LH torsion bar, move the RH hinge link off the LH torsion bar (1). Then carefully unhook the torsion bar off the RH hinge bracket (2) – see diagram (photo taken from rear seat) to lift up and then carefully pull towards the rear. Dislodge torsion bar from the bottom position of the center bracket clip (3).
STEP 31: While still holding the torsion bar tool, support the center of torsion bar with other hand and angle it downward (1). Remove torsion bar from the anchor bracket by pulling to the right (2). Remove safety pin and remove the tool from the torsion bar. Dispose of the original torsion bar.
STEP 32: Right Hand (RH) Torsion Bar Removal: With the special tool securely in place and safety pin engaged , rotate tool downward to apply tension to the RH torsion bar on the left-hand side of the vehicle (1).
While tensioning the RH torsion bar, move the LH hinge link off the RH torsion bar (2). Then carefully unhook the torsion bar off the LH hinge bracket by lifting up and then carefully pull towards the rear (See figure from Step 30). Dislodge torsion bar from the top position of the center bracket clip – in the center of the trunk (not shown).
STEP 33: While still holding the torsion bar tool, support the center of torsion bar with other hand and angle it downward (1). Remove torsion bar from the anchor bracket by pulling to the left (2). Remove safety pin and remove the tool from the torsion bar. Dispose of the original torsion bar.
STEP 34: The new accessory torsion bars will have green markings on them. See diagram below for proper engagement of the torsion bar and the safety pin in the tool. Start with the RH torsion bar. Installation of the new torsion bars is the reverse procedure of removal.
Reinstall trunk mounted seatback release handles (if equipped), trunk trim panels, side spacers and middle trunk subassembly, trunk mat, Emergency Fuel Door Release Cable, and Emergency Fuel Door Release Cover, trunk hooks, and return rear seat backs to the upright position and confirm that they are securely engaged.
STEP 35: Open and close trunk to confirm proper operation. Then reinstall the trunk liner. Installation complete.

Then carefully unhook the torsion bar off the RH hinge bracket (2) – see diagram (photo taken from rear seat) to lift up and then carefully pull towards the rear. Dislodge torsion bar from the bottom position of the center bracket clip (3). Utilisez un tournevis à tête plate pour retirer les 12 (douze) attaches et retirez la doublure intérieure. ÉTAPE 3 : Fermez le coffre. Placez le gabarit en Mylar sur le couvercle du coffre. Utilisez les deux flèches dans les coins pour aligner et centrer le gabarit. Fixez le gabarit à plat sur le couvercle de coffre avec du ruban. Retirez le gabarit et confirmez que les 7 (sept) repères marqués sont visibles. Fermez le couvercle de coffre. Percez les 7 (sept) trous selon les dimensions indiquées ci-dessous. ÉTAPE 6 – Voir l’ÉTAPE 6A en cas d’utilisation d’un foret étagé métrique. Passer à l’étape 6B en cas d’utilisation d’un foret étagé SAE. ÉTAPE 6A : Perçage métrique : Marquez la position de butée du foret étagé au moyen de ruban adhésif. Percez les 7 (sept) trous selon les dimensions indiquées ci-dessous. Votre foret étagé peut sembler différent de celui illustré. MISE EN GARDE : Veillez à ne pas égratigner la peinture du véhicule. Ouvrez le coffre, retirez soigneusement la pièce de tissus ou la pellicule plastique et passez l’aspirateur dans le coffre. Appliquez de l’antirouille (ou de la peinture de retouche) et attendez 30 minutes. ÉTAPE 8 : Utilisez les lingettes imbibées d’alcool fournies pour nettoyer la surface du couvercle du coffre où le déflecteur sera posé. MISE EN GARDE : Prenez grand soin de bien aligner les attaches blanches de l’étape 9 avec les boulons à T externes. ÉTAPE 9 : Insérez d’abord les attaches blanches dans le couvercle de coffre. Alignez ensuite le déflecteur, mais SANS APPUYER pour le moment. Vous entendrez une série de clics. Passez ensuite à l’attache gauche et assurez-vous que l’attache est toujours alignée avec le boulon à T. Exercez une pression verticale pour fixer les attaches. Vous entendrez une série de clics. MISE EN GARDE : Si les attaches blanches ne sont pas alignées sur les boulons à T, elles risquent d’être endommagées et de s’enfoncer dans les trous. ÉTAPE 12 : Ouvrez le couvercle de coffre et installez les 4 (quatre) écrous de compression. Serrez légèrement les 4 écrous, puis terminez de les serrer en suivant la séquence ci-dessous. Couple de serrage : 5,65 +/- 0,40 N•m (50 po-lb +/- 3 po-lb). Rabattez les dossiers. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX ÉTAPE 14 : Nettoyez le couvercle du coffre et le déflecteur. ÉTAPE 13 : Fermez le couvercle du coffre et appuyez fermement sur les emplacements no 1 et 2 pour vous assurer que les attaches blanches sont complètement fixées. Tournez le crochet à 90°, appuyez sur la languette à l’aide d’un tournevis, puis détachez-la. Utilisez la dégrafeuse pour retirer les 4 attaches. Conservez les attaches pour les réutiliser; remplacez-les si elles sont endommagées. Numéro de pièce d’attache : 99045AE03AMA NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX ÉTAPE 18 : Repérez le couvercle d’ouverture de volet d’urgence du réservoir de carburant sur le panneau de garniture du côté droit du coffre. Tournez le bouton dans le sens contraire des aiguilles d’une montre et soulevez-le pour retirer le couvercle. ÉTAPE 17 : Répétez cette étape pour le côté gauche. ÉTAPE 19 : Déplacez l’attache de dégagement vers l’avant, puis vers le haut. Glissez-la derrière le panneau de garniture du coffre. Desserrez soigneusement le panneau de garniture du coffre de la garniture du montant de siège, puis déplacez-le vers le centre du véhicule (1) pour dégager la gâche, puis décalez-le légèrement vers l’arrière (2). NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX ÉTAPE 21 : Retirez les deux espaceurs latéraux et le sous-ensemble de tronc central du véhicule. ÉTAPE 22 : Retirez les trois attaches avec la dégrafeuse (tirez vers l’avant du véhicule). Conservez les attaches pour les réutiliser; remplacezles si elles sont endommagées. Soulevez ensuite le panneau vers le haut pour dégager les quatre griffes (les griffes sont dissimulées sous le panneau, deux sont illustrées sur le schéma ci-dessous). ÉTAPE 26 : Tournez la poignée de déverrouillage de 90° vers l’extérieur du véhicule et tirez-la vers le bas pour la retirer. Répéter les étapes 25 à 26 sur le côté opposé du véhicule. Répéter les étapes 23 à 24 sur le côté opposé du véhicule. ÉTAPE 25 : Pour les véhicules équipés de poignées de déverrouillage de dossier de siège montées sur le coffre. Utilisez une pince à bec effilé pour serrer délicatement les languettes de blocage dans l’attache de fixation du câble de déverrouillage et retirez-les du support. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX NUMÉRO 00 10/27/2021 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 14 de 17 ÉTAPE 29 : MISE EN GARDE : Les prochaines étapes doivent être exécutées avec soin à l’aide de l’outil de dépose de barre de torsion spécifié. Le défaut d’utiliser l’outil approprié peut entraîner de graves blessures ou des dommages au véhicule. C’est pourquoi il est fortement recommandé que ce produit soit installé par un concessionnaire Subaru. Dépose de la barre de torsion de gauche (LH) : Une fois l’outil spécial en place et la goupille de sécurité engagée, faites pivoter l’outil vers le bas pour appliquer la tension sur la barre de torsion gauche du côté droit du véhicule. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX ÉTAPE 28 : Repérez l’attache du support au centre du coffre et ouvrez-la en relâchant la patte à l’avant, puis en faisant pivoter le support vers l’arrière pour l’ouvrir. REMARQUE : Prenez note de l’ordre des barres de torsion dans le support avant de poursuivre. ÉTAPE 27 : Installez la tige de soutien réglable du coffre, qui s’étend du logement du pneu de secours jusqu’au couvercle du coffre. AVERTISSEMENT : Si la tige de soutien réglable n’est pas bien installée, le couvercle du coffre peut tomber lorsque les barres de torsion sont retirées et causer des blessures graves à l’installateur ou au véhicule. Retirez la barre de torsion du support d’ancrage en tirant vers la droite (2). Retirez la goupille de sécurité et retirez l’outil de la barre de torsion. Mettez la barre de torsion originale au rebut. ÉTAPE 30 : Tout en tendant la barre de torsion gauche, déplacez la biellette de charnière droite de la barre de torsion gauche (1). Ensuite, décrochez délicatement la barre de torsion du support de charnière droite (2) – voir le schéma (photo prise depuis le siège arrière) pour la soulever, puis tirez délicatement vers l’arrière. Délogez la barre de torsion de la position inférieure de l’attache du support central (3). Voir le schéma ci-dessous pour l’engagement approprié de la barre de torsion et de la goupille de sécurité dans l’outil. Commencez par la barre de torsion droite. La pose des nouvelles barres de torsion suit la procédure inverse de dépose. Réinstallez les poignées d’ouverture du dossier du coffre (si le véhicule en est équipé), les panneaux de garniture du coffre, les espaceurs latéraux et le sous-ensemble central du coffre, le tapis de coffre, le câble d’ouverture de volet d’urgence, le couvercle d’ouverture d’urgence du volet d’accès au réservoir, les crochets du coffre, puis replacez les dossiers de siège arrière en position verticale et confirmez qu’ils sont bien engagés. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE : E721SAN031XX ÉTAPE 33 : Tout en maintenant l’outil à barre de torsion, soutenez le centre de la barre de torsion avec l’autre main et inclinez-la vers le bas (1). Retirez la barre de torsion du support d’ancrage en tirant vers la gauche (2). Retirez la goupille de sécurité et retirez l’outil de la barre de torsion. Mettez la barre de torsion originale au rebut. ÉTAPE 32 : Dépose de la barre de torsion du côté droit (RH) : Une fois l’outil spécial en place et la goupille de sécurité engagée , faites pivoter l’outil vers le bas pour appliquer la tension sur la barre de torsion de droite du côté gauche du véhicule (1). Lorsque vous mettez la barre de torsion droite sous tension, déplacez la biellette de charnière gauche de la barre de torsion droite (2). Ensuite, détachez délicatement la barre de torsion du support de charnière gauche en la soulevant et en la tirant doucement vers l’arrière (voir figure de l’étape 30). Retirez la barre de torsion de la position supérieure de l’attache du support central, au centre du coffre (non illustré).
