INTRODUCTION:
This Service Information bulletin announces instruction for application of additional lubrication between the brake caliper support and pad clips. This will prevent the pad from dragging due to corrosion buildup which may result in uneven or premature wear of the replacement brake pads. This additional instruction applies to all models with brake pads using the upper and lower pad clips and has been added to the brake pad installation procedures found in the related Service Manuals.
PART INFORMATION:
Use either p.n. K0777YA010, Molykote AS-880N Brake Grease or the equivalent supplied in the replacement brake pad kit.
NOTES:
- Part quantity 1 of K0777YA010 contains enough grease to repair 10 vehicles.
- Use p.n. SOA635318 (qty. 1) when submitting a related Warranty claim.
SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs.
The EXAMPLE illustration shown below for reference is from a 2019MY Forester. The procedure below is applicable when replacing either FRONT or REAR brake pads.
- Before installing new brake pads, remove the pad clips and thoroughly clean the caliper support of any dirt, rust or corrosion, paying close attention to the areas where the clips are attached / seated.
REMINDER: Always support removed calipers and NEVER allow them to hang by the brake hose.
- Apply a thin coating of brake grease to the caliper support then refit the pad clips to the support.
- Apply a thin coating of brake grease to the ends of the new brake pads where they contact the pad clips.
- Follow the remainder of the service procedure for reassembly as provided in the applicable Service Manual.
