SUBJECT: Fuel Pressure Gauge Hose Set (J-49863-1) Modification

INTRODUCTION

This Service Information bulletin outlines a procedure to modify the fuel hose assembly included in the fuel pressure testing kit, Subaru Special Tool number J-49863-1.  For the fuel pressure gauge to operate properly and provide accurate test results, the internals of the check valve portion of the hose assembly must be removed.

Check Valve

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION

  • CAREFULLY loosen and remove the check valve / hose assembly from the manual shut-off valve. No other disassembly of the hose assembly components is necessary.

Manual Valve

  • CAUTION: Wear Safety Glasses
  • Remove the small internal snap ring located inside the (now removed) end of the check valve.
  • While covering the end of the hose containing the check valve securely with a clean shop cloth, slowly administer compressed air into the opposite end of the hose assembly to gently release the internals of the check valve. A photo of the removed internal components is shown below.

  • To avoid possible fuel system contamination, remove any remaining sealant from the threads of the check valve body and the manual valve. Apply a small amount of PTFE pipe sealant (or Teflon tape) to the male check valve body threads and re-assemble.
