NUMBER: 07-95-15
DATE: 08/06/15

APPLICABILITY: 2015MY WRX
SUBJECT: Design Change to Engine Wiring Harness

INTRODUCTION

This Service Information bulletin announces a design change to the engine wiring harness to prevent water intrusion and accumulation from occurring inside the corrugated plastic harness tubing.  In some cases, this accumulation may cause a Check Engine Light to illuminate and exhaust camshaft position-related DTCs to be stored in the ECM memory (e.g. P0390, P0391).  The change involves full taping of the harness tube as opposed to pitch taping (no tape overlap) to enhance “sealing” of the harness tube and prevent water intrusion which may occur during engine cleaning (steam cleaning and / or pressure washing).  Under normal driving conditions, there is no possibility of this condition occurring. Comparison photos of the taping are shown below for reference.

PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:

The new engine harness was incorporated into production starting with VIN F*826079.

PART INFORMATION:

The part number for the new engine harness is 24020AF981.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION

When electrical diagnostics have isolated the root cause of failure to be a fault within the engine harness which cannot be repaired, replace it with the part number shown above.

The procedure for replacement of the engine harness is unchanged.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Subaru of America, Inc. does not recommend the practice of steam cleaning or pressure washing the engine and / or engine compartment.  In addition, application of any siliconebased cleaners or appearance dressings (gloss-enhancing or other) is strictly not recommended to avoid potential electrical component or wiring harness connection damage / deterioration.  Repairs resulting from the practice would be considered damage from outside influence and not covered by warranty.

REMINDER:  SOA strongly discourages the printing and/or local storage of service information as previously released information and electronic publications may be updated at any time.

Always refer to STIS for the latest service information before performing any repairs.
