INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
PART NUMBER: L101SAN620
DESCRIPTION: 2022 OUTBACK TRAILER HITCH PANEL
NOTE: This panel is only for use with trailer hitch part number L101SAN000 on the Outback Wilderness Trim vehicle. Do not use with any other trim of the Subaru Outback.
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU START
SAFETY PRECAUTION: When installing Trailer Hitch Panel, the use of safety glasses is recommended.
WARNING:
1. Always install the accessory following the instructions. Failure to do so may cause damage to the vehicle or the accessory.
2. Please also refer to SUBARU SERVICE MANUAL upon removing and re-assembling vehicle components.
3. Do not drill, cut or otherwise modify the Trailer Hitch Panel.
4. Do not lubricate the bolts and nuts with oil or grease.
5. When towing, total vehicle weight must not exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Also the load distribution on each axle must not exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). The GVWR and GAWR for your vehicle can be found on the “Certification label” which is located on the left side center pillar of the vehicle.
6. For models equipped with RAB, refer to the part which indicated [RAB].
7. Ensure all recyclable discarded vehicle accessory components and packaging are recycled following local recycling regulations.
8. It is always recommended that this accessory is fitted by a qualified SUBARU technician.
9. In the engine bay, disconnect the negative battery terminal.
10. Safely store and protect any removed vehicle components.
11. Ensure all bare metal surfaces are protected using Automotive Bare Metal Primer and touch-up paint.
12. Remove all metal swarf and dust from all vehicle surfaces if surface is used for accessory installation.
13. For further information, read vehicle’s owner manual or consult your dealer or dealer’s service department.

1) TAIL LIGHT REMOVAL
a) Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove two (2) screws and the tail light covers on both sides.
NOTE: Save fasteners for later reassembly.
b) Use a 10mm socket and wrench to remove two (2) bolts and pull the tail light assembly straight back to remove on both sides.
NOTE: Save fasteners for later reassembly.
c) Carefully remove the three (3) bulb assemblies from the sockets and set tail lamps aside.
2) REAR BUMPER FASCIA REMOVAL
a) Release the push button fastener on the upper edge of the wheel well. Use a small screwdriver to push in the center of the pin. Remove Phillips head screws at lower edge of wheel well. Repeat on opposite side of fascia.
NOTE: Save fasteners for later reassembly.
b) Use a pry tool to remove the cover panel at the top inside edge of the fascia. Use a 10mm socket and wrench to remove the bolt behind the panel. Repeat on opposite side of fascia.
c) Use a pry tool or screwdriver to remove all push pin fasteners along the underside of the fascia.
d) Using both hands, carefully pull out on the top edge of the fascia behind the wheel well to release the body clips on both sides.
e) Disconnect any electrical connectors from inner surface of fascia.
f) Fully remove the rear fascia and place it on a clean work surface.
3) PREPARE TEMPLATE
a) Detach the last four (4) pages of this document, verify that the sizing is at proper 100% scale and trim out the template sections as indicated. Tape the four (4) sections together to assemble the complete template and measure overall dimensions again to verify accuracy.
4) POSITION AND MARK TEMPLATE
a) Unclip the RAB sensor wire from the inside of the fascia and move it away from the cut area.
b) Place the template on the inside surface of the rear fascia, align it as shown and secure with tape. Carefully mark the edge of the template noting that the cut will travel straight back along the dotted lines at the bottom surface of the fascia.
5) CUT FASCIA
a) REMOVE THE TEMPLATE. Using a utility knife, carefully follow the marked line to cut away the center section of the fascia.
6) PREPARE FASCIA SURFACE
a) Using alcohol and a cloth, clean the surfaces indicated here for the adhesive strips on the panel.
7) MODIFY CENTER BRACKET
a) At the center rear of the vehicle, modify the metal bracket by measuring .75” and using pliers to carefully bend it upward as shown.
8) MOUNT FASCIA TO VEHICLE
a) Press fascia firmly to engage the upper retention features.
b) Insert the 2 lower fascia push pins surrounding the cut made in the fascia to locate it.
9) MOUNT PANEL TO FASCIA
a) Place the new hitch panel into the fascia opening. Be sure the top inside edge of the panel clips into the edge of the fascia. Using masking tape secure the panel to the rear fascia. Check for fit along the edges assuring no gaps are present.
b) Using the panel as a guide, drill (4) holes using an 8mm drill bit. A drill stop set to ½” depth should be used to prevent the drill bit from contacting any wires or sheet metal that may be out of sight behind the fascia. If a drill stop is not available wrap the drill bit with masking tape to set the ½” depth.
c) Insert the (4) 8mm push pins into the drilled holes to hold the lower surface to the fascia.
Remove the masking tape.
d) Remove the adhesive backing strips and apply 15 lbs of pressure along the edge of the panel for 10 seconds to ensure proper adhesion.
e) IMPORTANT: Move the RAB sensor harness out of drilling area to prevent damage.
f) Using the panel as a guide, drill (2) holes using a 7mm drill bit. A drill stop set to ½” depth should be used to prevent the drill bit from contacting any wires or sheet metal that may be out of sight behind the fascia. If a drill stop is not available wrap the drill bit with masking tape to set the ½” depth.
g) Insert the (2) 7mm push pins into the drilled holes ensuring they engage the bumper fascia.
10) REMOVE FASCIA PANEL
a) Remove the (2) push pins from step 8
b) Remove the rear fascia as described in step 2
c) Inspect RAB sensor wire for any damage possibly caused by the drilling of the holes. If RAB sensor wire is nicked during drilling it could still function but should be replaced to guarantee proper functioning and longevity.
d) Measure the inside of the panel to determine center. Peel off the adhesive backing and apply the cable tie mounting base to the inside of the panel as shown. Use the cable tie to secure the wire harness to the cable tie mounting base.
11) REINSTALL FASCIA TO VEHICLE
a) Reverse procedures in Step 2) REAR BUMPER FASCIA REMOVAL and Step 1) TAIL LIGHT REMOVAL to reinstall all the vehicle components. Press fascia firmly to engage the upper retention features.

VEUILLEZ LIRE ATTENTIVEMENT CES INSTRUCTIONS AVANT D’ENTREPRENDRE LES TRAVAUX MESURE DE SÉCURITÉ : Le port de lunette de sécurité est recommandé lors de l’installation d’un panneau d’attelage de remorque. AVERTISSEMENT : 1. Posez toujours l’accessoire conformément aux instructions d’installation. Faute de quoi, des dommages pourraient survenir au véhicule ou à l’accessoire. 2. Veuillez aussi consulter le MANUEL D’ENTRETIEN DE SUBARU pour la dépose et le remontage des composants du véhicule. 3. Évitez de percer, de couper ou de modifier de quelconque façon l’attelage de remorque. 4. Évitez de lubrifier les boulons et les écrous avec de l’huile ou de la graisse. 5. Lors de remorquage, le poids total du véhicule ne doit pas dépasser le poids nominal brut du véhicule (PNBV). Aussi, la distribution de la charge sur chaque essieu ne doit pas dépasser le poids nominal brut sur l’essieu (PNBE). Le PNBV et le PNBE de votre véhicule sont indiqués sur le « sceau d’attestation » situé sur le côté gauche du montant central du véhicule. 6. Pour les modèles équipés du freinage automatique en marche arrière, reportez-vous à la pièce indiquant [RAB]. 7. Assurez-vous que les composants recyclables et l’emballage de l’accessoire sont recyclés conformément aux règles en vigueur. 8. Il est fortement recommandé de confier l’installation de l’accessoire à un technicien SUBARU qualifié. 9. Dans le compartiment moteur, débranchez le câble négatif de la batterie. 10. Les composants déposés doivent être entreposés de façon sécuritaire. 11. Les surfaces métalliques nues doivent être protégées en appliquant un apprêt automobile pour métal nu et de la peinture de retouche. 12. Enlevez les éclats métalliques et la saleté qui pourraient couvrir la surface de pose. 13. REMARQUE : Conserver les fixations pour le remontage ultérieur. b) Utiliser une douille de 10 mm et une clé pour retirer deux (2) boulons et tirer le boîtier de feu arrière à la verticale vers l’arrière pour le retirer des deux côtés. REMARQUE : Conserver les fixations pour le remontage ultérieur. c) Retirer soigneusement les trois (3) ampoules des douilles et mettre les feux arrière de côté. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 3 DE 15 2) DÉPOSE DU CARÉNAGE DU PARE-CHOCS ARRIÈRE a) Dégager la goupille-poussoir sur le bord supérieur du passage de roue. À l’aide d’un petit tournevis, pousser au centre de la goupille. Retirer les vis à tête cruciforme du bord inférieur du passage de roue. Faire de même de l’autre côté du carénage. REMARQUE : Conserver les fixations pour le remontage ultérieur. b) Utiliser un levier pour retirer le panneau de recouvrement du bord intérieur supérieur du carénage. Utiliser une douille de 10 mm et une clé pour retirer le boulon derrière le panneau. Faire de même de l’autre côté du carénage. c) Utiliser un levier ou un tournevis pour retirer toutes les goupilles-poussoirs le long de la face inférieure du carénage. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 4 DE 15 2) DÉPOSE DU CARÉNAGE DU PARE-CHOCS ARRIÈRE (suite) d) À l’aide des deux mains, tirer délicatement sur le bord supérieur du carénage, derrière le passage de roue, pour dégager les agrafes de carrosserie des deux côtés. e) Débrancher tous les connecteurs électriques de la surface intérieure du carénage. f) Retirer entièrement le carénage arrière et le placer sur une surface de travail propre. 3) PRÉPARER LE GABARIT a) Détacher les quatre (4) dernières pages de ce document, vérifier que la taille est à l’échelle de 100 % et découper les sections du gabarit comme indiqué. Fixer les quatre (4) sections ensemble avec du ruban adhésif pour assembler le gabarit au complet et mesurer de nouveau les dimensions globales afin de vérifier l’exactitude. 270 mm NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 5 DE 15 4) POSITIONNER ET MARQUER LE GABARIT a) Détacher le fil du capteur de freinage automatique en marche arrière de l’intérieur du carénage et l’éloigner de la zone de découpe. b) Placer le gabarit sur la surface intérieure du carénage arrière, l’aligner comme illustré et le fixer avec du ruban adhésif. Marquer avec soin le bord du gabarit en notant que la découpe se poursuit tout droit vers l’arrière le long des pointillés sur la surface inférieure du carénage. FIL DU CAPTEUR DE FREINAGE AUTOMATIQUE EN MARCHE ARRIÈRE (INTÉRIEUR DU CARÉNAGE ILLUSTRÉ) 5) COUPE DU CARÉNAGE a) RETIRER LE GABARIT. À l’aide d’un couteau universel, suivre délicatement la ligne tracée pour découper la section centrale du carénage. (INTÉRIEUR DU CARÉNAGE ILLUSTRÉ) NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 6 DE 15 6) PRÉPARER LA SURFACE DU CARÉNAGE a) À l’aide d’alcool et d’un chiffon, nettoyer les surfaces indiquées ici où seront apposées les bandes adhésives sur le panneau. 7) MODIFIER LE SUPPORT CENTRAL a) Au centre arrière du véhicule, modifier le support métallique en mesurant 0,75 po et utiliser des pinces pour le plier soigneusement vers le haut, comme illustré. 0,75 po 8) MONTER LE CARÉNAGE SUR LE VÉHICULE a) Appuyer fermement sur le carénage pour enclencher les éléments de retenue supérieurs. b) Insérer les deux goupillespoussoirs inférieures du carénage dans les endroit prévus autour de la coupe faite dans le carénage pour le positionner. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 7 DE 15 9) INSTALLER LE PANNEAU SUR LE CARÉNAGE a) Placer le nouveau panneau d’attelage dans l’ouverture du carénage. S’assurer que le bord intérieur supérieur du panneau s’attache dans le bord du carénage. Fixer le panneau au carénage arrière à l’aide de ruban-cache. Vérifier l’ajustement le long des bords pour vous assurer qu’il n’y a aucun interstice. b) En se servant du panneau comme guide, percer quatre (4) trous à l’aide d’un foret de 8 mm. Il faut utiliser une butée de perçage de ½ po de profondeur pour empêcher le foret d’entrer en contact avec tout fil ou tôlerie qui pourrait être caché derrière le carénage. Si l’on ne dispose pas d’une butée de perçage, envelopper la mèche avec du ruban-cache pour ajuster la profondeur à ½ po. 1/2 po 8 mm NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 8 DE 15 9) INSTALLER LE PANNEAU SUR LE CARÉNAGE (suite) c) Insérer les (4) goupilles-poussoirs de 8 mm dans les trous percés pour fixer la surface inférieure au carénage. Retirer le ruban-cache. d) Retirer les bandes à pellicule protectrice de l’adhésif et appliquer une pression de 15 lb le long du bord du panneau pendant 10 secondes pour assurer une bonne adhérence. e) IMPORTANT : Déplacer le faisceau des capteurs du système de freinage automatique en marche arrière hors de la zone de perçage pour éviter les dommages. Il faut utiliser une butée de perçage de ½ po de profondeur pour empêcher le foret d’entrer en contact avec tout fil ou tôlerie qui pourrait être caché derrière le carénage. Si l’on ne dispose pas d’une butée de perçage, envelopper la mèche avec du ruban-cache pour ajuster la profondeur à ½ po. 7 mm 1/2 po g) Insérez les (2) goupilles-poussoirs de 7 mm dans les trous percés en vous assurant qu’elles s’engagent dans le carénage du pare-chocs. NUMÉRO DE PIÈCE L101SAN620 VERSI ON 1 DATE 2021-08- 09 SUBARU OF AMERICA PAGE 10 DE 15 10) RETIRER LE PANNEAU DE CARÉNAGE a) Retirer les deux (2) goupilles-poussoirs mentionnées à l’étape 8. b) Déposer le carénage arrière comme décrit à l’étape 2. c) Inspecter le fil du capteur de freinage automatique en marche arrière pour s’assurer qu’il ne présente aucun dommage pouvant avoir été causé lors du perçage des trous. S’il a été entaillé pendant le perçage, le fil du capteur de freinage automatique en marche arrière pourrait toujours fonctionner, mais il devrait être remplacé pour en assurer la longévité et le fonctionnement adéquats. d) Mesurer l’intérieur du panneau pour déterminer son centre. Retirer la pellicule protectrice de l’adhésif et apposer la base de fixation d’attache autobloquante à l’intérieur du panneau, comme illustré. Utilisez l’attache autobloquante pour fixer le faisceau de câblage à la base de montage de l’attache autobloquante. 7,5 po 7,5 po 11) RÉINSTALLER LE CARÉNAGE SUR LE VÉHICULE Inverser les procédures de l’étape 2) DÉPOSE DU CARÉNAGE DU PARE-CHOCS ARRIÈRE et de l’étape 1) DÉPOSE DES FEUX ARRIÈRE pour réinstaller tous les composants du véhicule. Appuyer fermement sur le carénage pour enclencher les éléments de retenue supérieurs.
