This Getting Started Guide will introduce you to your new Subaru Solterra by providing information on the basic operation and key features of your Subaru as well as the Multimedia and SUBARU Safety Sense systems in your vehicle. The answering Customer Care Agent will determine your vehicle’s location, assess the emergency, and dispatch the necessary assistance required. Enhanced Roadside Assistance: Enhanced Roadside Assistance adds GPS data to the already included warranty-based Subaru roadside assistance. Open the protective cover on the overhead console and press the “SOS” button to reach a Solterra Connect Customer Care Agent, who can help with a wide range of needs, such as towing, flat tire, and more. Subaru Roadside Assistance Subaru Roadside Assistance: 1-800-261-2155 Subaru Roadside Assistance is free and standard on your Subaru; there are no forms to complete. This service is available anytime during the 3-year/36,000–mile Subaru Limited Warranty, whichever comes first, or for as long as you are subscribed to Safety Connect services. See your Subaru Retailer for details and refer to the Roadside Assistance guide in the owner’s information kit for the details on this coverage. A Subaru Roadside Assistance decal has been affixed to the driver’s door window. SOS Button PURPOSE OF THIS GUIDE 5 TOWING YOUR ALL-WHEEL DRIVE ELECTRIC SUBARU If you need to tow your Solterra, be sure to transport the vehicle with all four wheels raised off the ground. Have your Solterra towed with a flatbed truck by your Subaru Retailer or a commercial towing service. For more information, please refer to “When trouble arises” in your Owner’s Manual. PURPOSE OF THIS GUIDE 6 ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM FEATURES Your Subaru Solterra is a battery electric vehicle, which is considerably different from conventional vehicles. Battery electric vehicles use electricity charged in a traction battery to drive an electric motor, instead of using an engine that burns a fuel, such as gasoline. Because they use electricity to drive the motor, they do not emit any emissions, such as CO2 (carbon dioxide) or NOx (Nitrogen Oxides). Battery electric vehicles are environmentally friendly vehicles. Your Subaru Solterra electric vehicle system contains the following components: 1 Electricity Supply Unit (built in onboard traction battery charger/DC-DC converter) 2 Front electric motor (traction motor)/Inverter 3 12-volt battery (Provides electricity to various vehicle systems such as the SRS airbags, headlights, wipers, etc.) 4 Traction battery (Provides electricity to the electric motors) 5 Charging port 6 Rear electric motor (traction motor)/Inverter The electric vehicle is driven using electricity, received from an external power source, that is stored in the traction battery. Public charging stations and even your household outlets can be used for charging. Procedures are different from refueling a conventional vehicle. For more information on charging your vehicle, please refer to page 41. ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM 7 ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS Be careful of the high voltage components (nominal voltage at 355.2 V), such as the traction battery, electricity supply unit, orange colored high voltage cables, and electric motor, as well as high temperature components such as the cooling radiator. Warning labels are provided on high voltage components. The warning label and high voltage components are given in the following illustration: 1 Warning Label 2 High Voltage Cables (orange) 3 Electricity Supply Unit (built in onboard traction battery charger/DC-DC converter) 4 Service Plug 5 AC Charging Inlet 6 DC Charging Inlet 7 Traction Battery 8 Electric Motor (traction motor)/Inverter (front/rear) 9 Air Conditioning Compressor ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM 8 ELECTRIC VEHICLE DRIVING TIPS For electric vehicles, possible driving distance varies depending on factors such as how the vehicle is driven, road conditions, weather, outside temperature, electrical component usage and the number of occupants. For example, driving at consistently high average speeds on highways and freeways could reduce possible driving distance. Driving at moderate speeds could conserve power in the traction battery and increase the available distance. The following tips for extending driving range can help get you where you are going in your new Subaru Solterra. Tips for Extending the Driving Range • Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and avoid unnecessary acceleration and deceleration. • Accelerate and decelerate the vehicle as smoothly as possible. • Drive at moderate speeds as much as possible and maintain a constant speed. • Set the air conditioning system to a moderate temperature and avoid using the heating and cooling functions excessively. • Use the S-Flow and ECO climate control settings with auto settings for heated seats and steering wheel for greater efficiency. • Use tires of the specified size and maintain the specified tire pressure. • Do not add unnecessary weight to the vehicle. ELECTRIC VEHICLE SYSTEM 9 KEYLESS ENTRY 1 Lock/Arm • Press the lock/arm button to lock the doors, including the back door, and to activate the security alarm. A chirp sounds and the hazard warning lights flash once. 2 Unlock/Disarm • Press the unlock/disarm button once to unlock the driver’s door. Two chirps sound and the hazard warning lights flash twice. To unlock all the doors, including the back door, briefly press the button twice. 3 A/C • Press and hold the A/C button to operate the remote climate control system at a predetermined temperature. To cancel operation, press the A/C button twice or unlock and open any door. 4 Power Back Door (if equipped) • Press and hold to automatically unlock and open/close the Power Back Door. 5 Panic Alarm • Press the panic alarm button for about one second to sound the horn and flash the hazard warning lights. • Press any button on the access key fob to deactivate the panic alarm. Digital Key (if equipped) For added convenience and connectivity, a smartphone can be used instead of the access key fob by installing the SUBARU SOLTERRA CONNECT app on your smartphone. The Digital Key can also be shared with your family or friends using the Solterra Connect app. Install the Solterra Connect app, register the vehicle to your profile, and subscribe to Remote Connect and Drive Connect to enroll in Digital Key. Access Key Fob ENTRY AND EXIT 10 Automatic Door Locking/Unlocking The automatic door locking/unlocking feature allows you to set when your Subaru automatically locks or unlocks the doors through the Multimedia Display. The available settings are listed in the table below. AVAILABLE SETTINGS AUTO DOOR LOCK By Speed By Shift from PARK OFF AUTO DOOR UNLOCK By Shift to Park By Driver Door OFF ENTRY AND EXIT 11 KEYLESS ACCESS WITH POWER SWITCH The Keyless Access with Power Switch system features the following touch-activated door locking or unlocking functions, without the key ever leaving your pocket or purse. You can customize some of the the touch-activated door locking or unlocking settings using the multimedia system. For more information, please refer to “Before driving” in your Owner’s Manual. Unlocking Using Door Handles Grip the driver’s door handle to unlock the door. Holding the driver’s door handle for approximately 2 seconds unlocks all the doors. Grip the front passenger’s door handle (or if equipped, the rear door handles) to unlock all doors. Locking Using Door Handles Close all the doors including the back door and touch the door lock sensor (two lines) on either front door handle, or if equipped, the rear door handles. All doors including the back door lock. One chirp sounds and the hazard warning lights flash once. Door Unlock Sensor Door Lock Sensor ENTRY AND EXIT 12 Unlocking Using the Back Door Press the back door opener switch to unlock all the doors and open the back door. Two chirps sound and the hazard warning lights flash twice. Locking Using the Back Door Close all the doors and the back door and press the rear lock switch. All doors and the back door lock. One chirp sounds and the hazard warning lights flash once. Back Door Opener Switch Rear Lock Switch ENTRY AND EXIT 13 POWER BACK DOOR (if equipped) The Power Back Door allows automatic opening, and a single touch of a switch can close the back door and lock the entire vehicle. The opening height can also be set for spaces where clearance is limited. Power Back Door Switch Opening the Power Back Door Press and briefly hold the Power Back Door Switch on the instrument panel to automatically open the back door. Unlock the doors before opening. Closing the Power Back Door Press and briefly hold the Power Back Door Switch on the instrument panel to automatically close the back door. Stopping the Power Back Door If you briefly press the Power Back Door Switch while the back door is opening/closing, it will stop. Press and hold the button again to reverse the operation. The operation of the Power Back Door is the same using the Power Back Door Switch on the access key fob. From the Rear of the Vehicle Opening the Power Back Door To open the back door, briefly press the Back Door Opener Switch on the underside trim near the license plate, and the back door automatically opens. Power Back Door Switch Back Door Opener Switch ENTRY AND EXIT 14 Closing the Power Back Door To close the back door, briefly press the Power Back Door Close Switch on the inside edge of the back door. Stopping the Power Back Door If you briefly press the Power Back Door Close Switch on the inside edge of the back door while the door is operating, it will stop. Press the switch again to perform the opposite operation. Power Back Door Lock Press the lock switch on the inside edge and step back from the back door. When the access key fob is out of the detection area, the Power Back Door closes, locking all doors including the back door. CONTROLS 21 METER CONTROL SWITCHES 1 Return: Display or hide the Multi-information screen. Return to previous screen. 2 Up/Down Arrow: Select menu icons, scroll the screen, and move the cursor. 3 Left/Right Arrow: Change displayed content, scroll the screen, and move the cursor. 4 OK: Press for enter or set. Press and hold to reset/display customizable items. For more information, please refer to “Vehicle Status Information And Indicators” in your Owner’s Manual. LIGHT CONTROLS 1 AUTO: Rotate the end of the lever to set your headlights and daytime running lights to automatically turn on or off, depending on the level of light outside. 2 Parking Lights: Rotate the end of the lever to turn on the side marker, parking, tail, license plate, instrument panel, and daytime running lights. 3 Headlights: Rotate the end of the lever to turn on the headlights, side marker, parking, tail, license plate, and instrument panel lights. 4 High Beams: With the headlights on, push the lever forward to turn on the high beams. Pull the lever toward you to the center position to return to low beam. Pull the lever toward you and release to flash the high beams. 5 Fog Lights (if equipped): When the headlights are on, rotate the dial to turn on the fog lights. 6 DRL OFF: Rotate the end of the lever to turn all lights off. CONTROLS 22 Illumination Brightness Use the up and down arrow switches to raise or lower the illumination brightness of the instrument panel. Daytime Running Lights The daytime running lights automatically turn on when the EV system is operating, the parking brake is released, the light switch is set to the “AUTO” or “ ” position, and the surroundings are bright. Always turn on the headlights when it’s dark outside by rotating the dial to the “ ” or “AUTO” position. TURN SIGNALS Push fully up for the right turn signal and fully down for the left turn signal. Your Subaru also has a one-touch lane changer feature: push slightly up and release to signal a right lane change or push slightly down and release to signal a left lane change. CONTROLS 23 WINDSHIELD WIPERS 1 INT/AUTO: Push the wiper control lever down one position for intermittent, or AUTO operation (if equipped). Rotate the dial to adjust to adjust the intermittent wiper timing. If equipped, when the wiper control lever is in the “AUTO” position, the wipers operate automatically when the rain/light sensor detects rain. The system automatically adjusts wiper timing in accordance with rain volume and vehicle speed. Rotate the dial to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor. NOTE: Make sure to turn off this function before entering an automatic car wash. 2 Low Speed: Push the wiper control lever down two positions for low speed wiper operation. 3 High Speed: Push the wiper control lever down three positions for high speed wiper operation. 4 Mist: Push the wiper up from the OFF position for a single wipe. 5 Windshield Washer: Pull the lever toward you to wash the windshield. The washer will spray and the wipers will operate while you pull the lever. REAR-VISION CAMERA WASHER (if equipped) To help keep your vision clear, your Subaru comes equipped with a Rear-vision Camera Washer. To clean the Rear-vision Camera, simply push the windshield wiper lever forward. The washer operates to clean the rear-vision camera and camera for the Smart Rear View Mirror, if equipped. For more information , please refer to “Driving” in your Owner’s Manual. CONTROLS 24 ONE-TOUCH INTERIOR LIGHTING Pressing the One-touch Interior Lighting Switch conveniently turns on front interior lights/personal lights and rear interior lights. Pressing the switch again turns all the lights off. OVERHEAD CONSOLE 1 Emergency Assistance Button (SOS): Press the “SOS” button to connect with a Solterra Connect Customer Care Agent (subscription required). For more information, please refer to page 91 in this Getting Started Guide. 2 Automatic Illumination: When the DOOR switch is depressed, the door-linked function is activated, and the lights turn on/off according to the opening and closing of the doors. 3 One-touch Interior Lighting: Press to turn on front interior lights/personal lights and rear interior lights. Pressing the switch again turns all the lights off. 4 Electronic Sunshade: Operate these switches to open and close the sunshade. For more information, please refer to page 32 in this Getting Started Guide or “Interior features” in your Owner’s Manual. 5 Personal Lights: Press a personal light switch to turn the light on or off. One-touch Interior Lighting Switch Overhead Console Switches CONTROLS 25 SEATING Manual Seats 1 Forward/Backward: Pull the lever below the seat up and slide the seat forward or backward. Release the lever and make sure the seat is locked into place. 2 Seat Height (Driver’s Seat): Pulling up or pushing down on the lever will raise or lower the seat cushion. 3 Recline Seatback: Pull the lever up to adjust the seatback. Release the lever and make sure the seatback is locked into place. Manual Seat Levers GETTING COMFORTABLE 26 Power Driver’s Seat (if equipped) 1 Seat Position: Moving the switch forward or backward will adjust the seat in that direction. Pulling up or pushing down on the back of the switch will adjust the seat height up or down. Pulling up or pushing down on the front of the switch will adjust the angle of the seat cushion. 2 Recline Seatback: Moving the top of the switch forward or backward will adjust the angle of the seatback. 3 Lumbar Support: Pressing the front of the switch will increase support. Pressing the rear of the switch will decrease support. If equipped, your Subaru can be programmed to automatically recall your preferred Power Driver’s Seat and side mirror positions each time you enter your vehicle. For step by step instructions on setting the Power Memory Seat, please refer to page 118. Power Seat Controls Memory Seat Buttons GETTING COMFORTABLE 27 Head Restraint Adjustment Pull the head restraint up to raise it. To lower the head restraint, push it down while pressing the release button on the top of the seatback. Each head restraint should be adjusted so that the center of the head restraint is closest to the top of the occupant’s ears. Seatbelt Adjuster To keep yourself comfortable and safe, always position the seatbelt adjuster so the shoulder belt passes over the middle of your shoulder without touching your neck. Press and hold the top of the adjuster and slide it up or down. Release the adjuster and make sure it is locked in place. Seatbelt Adjustment Tab GETTING COMFORTABLE 28 TILT AND TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN You can adjust both the height and lengthwise position of the steering wheel. Pull the lever on the steering column down firmly to unlock, and then adjust the position of the steering wheel. Push the lever firmly back up to lock the steering wheel in place. POWER EXTERIOR MIRRORS The power mirror knob works with the power switch in ON or ACC. Turn the knob to “L” (left side) or “R” (right side) to select a mirror. Push the knob in the direction you want to move the mirror. Turn the knob back to the center position when finished. Steering Column Unlock Power Mirror Knob GETTING COMFORTABLE 29 Power Folding Mirrors (if equipped) The Power Folding Mirrors make it easy to protect your exterior mirrors when your Subaru is parked or being washed in an automated car wash. Press the bottom of the switch to fold the power mirrors and press the top of the switch to unfold. Putting the Power Folding Mirror Switch in the neutral position (“A”) sets the mirrors to automatic mode. In automatic mode, the mirrors fold or extend automatically with the locking/unlocking of the doors. Reverse Tilt Mirror (if equipped) When the power mirror knob is in the “L” or “R” position, the outside rear view mirrors will automatically angle downwards when the vehicle is reversing in order to give a better view of the ground. To disable this function, move the power mirror knob to the neutral position. You can use the power mirror knob to adjust the mirror angle with the shift position in R. The adjusted angle will be memorized and the mirror will automatically tilt to the memorized angle the next time the position is shifted to R. NOTE: The memorized downward tilt position is linked to the normal position (angle adjusted with the shift position not in reverse). Therefore, if the normal position is changed, readjust the reverse tilt position as well. Power Folding Mirror Switch GETTING COMFORTABLE 30 REAR VIEW MIRROR Auto-dimming Mirror The auto-dimming function senses distracting glare and automatically dims to eliminate the glare and preserve your vision. Press the switch to turn auto-dimming on or off. The indicator illuminates when the function is on. HomeLink® Accessory Mirror (if equipped) The HomeLink® accessory mirror provides three buttons to replace devices such as garage door openers, gate openers, entry door locks, security systems, and home lighting. The “Interior features” chapter in your Owner’s Manual provides programming instructions. NOTE: HomeLink® may not be compatible with some older door openers or additional equipment may be required. Smart Rearview Mirror (if equipped) The Smart Rearview Mirror displays an image in the rearview mirror from a camera on the rear of the vehicle. This function enhances your view behind the vehicle, even when obstructions inside, such as the head restraints or luggage, block your view. Pull the mode lever toward you to use the Smart Rearview Mirror camera, and push the mode lever away from you to use as a normal mirror. Mode Lever GETTING COMFORTABLE 31 POWER WINDOWS To open or close a window, partially press down or pull up and hold the corresponding switch. All windows also have a one-touch auto up/down function. Fully press down or pull up and release to automatically open or close using the one-touch function. ELECTRONIC SUNSHADE (if equipped) The electronic sunshade can be operated when the power switch is in ON. 1 Opening: Press, briefly hold, and release the OPEN side of the switch to open the sunshade. 2 Closing: Press, briefly hold, and release the CLOSE side of the switch to close the sunshade. To stop the sunshade partway during operation, briefly press either side of the switch. Power Window Switches Power Sunshade Switch GETTING COMFORTABLE 32 CLIMATE CONTROL Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control The climate control system is equipped with convenient and customizable features. In All Auto ECO mode and automatic control mode, set your desired temperature and let the system make the adjustments for you. At any time, you can manually take control of the climate settings. You can also set separate temperatures for the driver and front passenger. Operation in Automatic Mode 1 All Auto ECO mode: ALL AUTO (“ECO”) control allows a comfortable condition to be maintained without adjusting each system. The seat heaters, seat ventilators (if equipped) and heated steering wheel (if equipped) are each automatically controlled according to the set temperature of the air conditioning system, the outside and cabin temperature, etc. Press the switch to activate ECO mode. Press again to deactivate. When ECO mode is deactivated, automatic mode of other functions is maintained. 2 Automatic Mode: The dehumidification function begins to operate. Air outlets and fan speed are automatically adjusted according to the temperature setting and humidity. If the fan speed or air flow modes are operated, the automatic mode indicator turns off. However, automatic mode for functions other than the one operated are maintained. GETTING COMFORTABLE 33 Operation in Manual Mode 3 Recirculated/Outside Air: Press the switch to change between outside air mode (indicator off) and recirculated air mode (indicator on). NOTE: To prevent windshield fogging, do not remain in the recirculated mode for an extended period of time. 4 Air Conditioner: Press this switch to activate or deactivate the air conditioning. 5 S-FLOW Switch: This function automatically controls the air conditioning airflow so that priority is given to the front seats whenever the vehicle senses there are no passengers in the rear seats. Unnecessary air conditioning is reduced, contributing to increased electricity consumption efficiency. NOTE: Even if the function is manually switched to directing airflow to only the front seats, when a rear seat is occupied, it may automatically direct airflow to all seats. 6 Windshield Wiper Deicer: Press this switch to operate windshield wiper deicer to help prevent or minimize ice buildup on the windshield and wiper blades. The windshield wiper deicer will automatically turn off after a period of time. 7 SYNC: To turn on SYNC mode, press the SYNC mode switch. 8 Passenger’s Temperature Control: Operate the switch up to increase temperature and down to decrease temperature 9 Airflow Mode Selection: Operate the switch upwards or downwards to select the desired airflow mode. The selected mode – ventilation, bi-level, feet, or feet-defrost – is shown on the display. GETTING COMFORTABLE 34 10 Fan Speed Control: Operate the switch up to increase or down to decrease fan speed. 11 Driver’s Temperature Control: Operate the switch up to increase temperature and down to decrease temperature 12 Rear Window Defogger Switch: Press this switch to turn on the rear window and outside mirror defogger. It will automatically turn off after a period of time. 13 Defroster Switch: Press this switch to defrost or dehumidify the windshield and front door windows. Set the outside/recirculated air mode switch to outside air mode if the recirculated air mode is being used (it may switch automatically). To return to the previous mode, press the windshield defogger switch again when the windshield is defogged. Remote Air Conditioning System The remote air conditioning system uses electrical energy stored in the traction battery and allows the air conditioning to be operated by remote control. Press and hold the A/C button on the access key fob to operate the system. The HVAC will operate at the at the last settings it was left on. The system operates when the power switch is OFF and all doors and the motor compartment hood are closed. The system automatically deactivates after about 20 minutes. To cancel operation, press the A/C button twice or unlock and open a door. If the remote air conditioning system is used while the charging cable is connected, the system will use electricity from the external power source, and charging will be conducted automatically after the remote air conditioning system is stopped. GETTING COMFORTABLE 35 Remote Start and Climate Control With the Solterra Connect app, you can remotely start your Solterra and adjust the temperature with custom climate settings. Please refer to your Multimedia Owner’s Manual and see your Subaru Retailer for details. Heated Seats The heated seats can be used when the power switch is in the ON position. There are separate switches on the climate control panel for the driver and passenger. Press the switch to activate the heated seat. Each time you press the switch, the mode will change as follows: AUTO, High, Mid, Low, and Off. The AUTO and/or level indicator illuminates during operation. Rear Heated Seats (if equipped) The rear heated seats can be used when the power switch is in the ON position. There are separate switches on the rear center console for each outboard seat. Press the switch to activate the heated seat. Each time you press the switch, the mode will change as follows: High, Mid, Low, and Off. The level indicator illuminates during operation. Ventilated Seat Switches Rear Heated Seat Switches GETTING COMFORTABLE 37 Heated Steering Wheel (if equipped) The heated steering wheel can be activated when the power switch is in the ON position. Press the switch to activate the heated steering wheel. Each time you press the switch, the mode will change as follows: AUTO, High, Low, and Off. The AUTO and/or level indicator illuminates during operation. ACCESSORY CONNECTIONS Dual USB Charging Ports: Two Type-C USB charging ports are provided in the front below the center console and on the rear center console. The USB Type-C charging ports can be used when the power switch is in ON or ACC and supply 3 A of electricity at 5 V to external devices. These USB charging ports are for charging only. They are not designed for data transfer or connection to the multimedia system. For more information, please refer to “Interior Equipment” in your Owner’s Manual. Heated Steering Wheel Switch Dual Type-C USB Ports GETTING COMFORTABLE 38 Power Outlets: A power outlet is located below the center console. The power outlet can be used when the power switch is ON or ACC. Electrical power is available for use with in-vehicle electronic goods that use less than 12 VDC /10 A (power consumption of 120 W). Make sure power consumption of all the connected power outlets is less than 120 W. NOTE: Disconnect electrical devices with charging functions when stopping the EV system. If such devices are left connected, the EV system may not stop normally. For more information, please refer to “Interior Equipment” in your Owner’s Manual. USB Multimedia Port: A USB port that connects to the multimedia system is located within the center console, next to the wireless charging area. You can connect a variety of USB-equipped devices to the port, such as portable music players or smartphones, to enjoy your favorite music or connect to Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™. For more information, please refer to page 85 in this Getting Started Guide or “Basic operation” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. Power Outlet USB Multimedia Port GETTING COMFORTABLE 39 Wireless Charging (if equipped) A portable device, such as a smartphone or mobile battery, can be charged by just placing it on the charging area, provided the device is compatible with the Qi® wireless charging standard created by the Wireless Power Consortium. Place a portable device on the charging area with its charging surface facing down. While charging, the operation indicator light (orange) will be illuminated and the multimedia screen indicates charging status. If charging does not begin, move the portable device as close to the center of the charging area as possible. When charging is complete, the operation indicator light (green) will illuminate. GETTING COMFORTABLE 40 CHARGING TIPS For stress-free driving of your all-electric Solterra, it is recommended that you charge your vehicle before leaving home and/or when returning home. Using a level 2 AC charging cable is recommended for the best combination of charging time and battery life. Level 1 AC charging cables will require longer charging times. Regular usage of DC charging can eventually cause battery degradation over the life of your Solterra and is not recommended. The Charging Schedule function can be used to set the system to charge the vehicle before you leave, or even be scheduled to charge the battery every day/night or at the same time on certain days. For more information about the charging schedule function, please refer to page 50 in this Getting Started Guide or “Electric Vehicle system” in your Owner’s Manual. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 41 CHARGING EQUIPMENT AND METHODS Charging Equipment Your Solterra comes equipped with a level 1 AC charging cable to connect to an external power source, along with the following components: 1 Charging Indicator 2 AC Charging Inlet 3 AC Charging Inlet Cap 4 DC Charging Inlet 5 DC Charging Inlet Cap 6 Charging Port Door 7 AC Charging Cable Charging Methods Your Solterra EV system can be charged using both AC charging and DC charging methods: • AC Charging: This charging method uses an AC electrical outlet with the AC charging cable (level 1 cable equipped with the vehicle) at your home or at a public charging station. For more information, please refer to page 43 in this Getting Started Guide and “Electric vehicle system” in your Owner’s Manual. • When using AC charging, the charging start time (or departure time) and day can be set to carry out charging using the schedule at the desired date and time. For more information on setting the charging schedule, please refer to page 50. • DC Charging: This is a charging method using a DC charger that complies with SAE J 1772 at a public charging station. Compared to AC charging, the traction battery can be charged in a shorter amount of time. For more information, please refer to page 51. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 42 OPENING THE CHARGING PORT DOOR The charging port is located just in front of the driver’s door. To access the charging port for AC or DC charging, first open the charging port door by pressing the rear edge to slightly open it. Then, fully open the charging port door by hand. Move the charging port door to the slightly open position and then press the rear edge to close it. Confirm this before charging: • Connect to an AC 120 V outlet (NEMA 5-15R) with a Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) and a circuit breaker. Use of a 15A individual circuit is strongly recommended to ensure the AC charging cable will operate properly. • When charging outdoors, make sure to connect to a weatherproof outlet that is certified for outdoor use. Checking Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) operation before its use is recommended. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 43 Locking and Unlocking the AC Charging Connector The AC charging connector will be automatically locked when it is connected to the AC charging inlet, preventing the AC charging cable from being disconnected while charging. Unlock the AC charging connector by unlocking the doors and pull the AC charging connector straight out while pressing the latch release button. The settings for locking and unlocking the charging connector can also be adjusted in the Multi-information display in “Vehicle Settings.” For more information on adjusting the settings, please refer to “Electric Vehicle System” in your Owner’s Manual. AC Charging Procedure Before charging, confirm the following: • The parking brake is set. • The headlight, the emergency flashers, interior lights, and other electrical components or equipment are switched off. • The power switch is in the OFF position. • Each part of the AC charging cable is in good condition. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 44 Charging your Solterra 1 Prepare the AC charging cable and insert the plug of the AC charging cable into the electrical outlet of the external power source. NOTE: In order to reduce the load on the electrical socket and plug, when inserting the plug, hang the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) on a hook or equivalent. 2 Open the charging port door. The charging inlet light illuminates to provide light to the charging area in the dark. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 45 3 Press the release button to open the AC charging inlet cap. 4 Remove the AC charging connector cap and secure it to the cable. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 46 5 Insert the AC charging connector into the AC charging inlet. Align the guide position on the bottom of the AC charging connector and push the AC charging connector straight into the AC charging inlet as far as possible, until you hear a click. When the AC charging connector is fully inserted, it will automatically lock. Check the connector to ensure it is securely locked. NOTE: If a charge is scheduled, and you wish to charge the vehicle immediately instead of the scheduled time, turn “Charge Now” to ON in the Multi-information Display or multimedia display. Otherwise, charging will begin at the scheduled time. 6 Confirm the charging indicator (green light) is illuminated. The charging indicator will turn off when charging is completed. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 47 After Charging 1 Unlock the AC charging connector by unlocking the doors. 2 Push and hold the latch release button and pull the AC charging connector straight out. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 48 3 Close the AC charging inlet cap securely until you hear a click. 4 Close the charging port door and disconnect the plug of the AC charging cable from the electrical outlet. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 49 Using the Charging Schedule On the multimedia screen, you can set a charging schedule to start at a certain time, or start and stop charging at your desired leave time, including setting repeated charging schedules for your desired days/times. Setting the schedule is possible when the power switch is in the ON position. Display the charging schedule screen by selecting the vehicle icon on the main menu, and then selecting “Charging schedule.” 1 Charging Schedules 2 Add Button 3 Edit Button 4 Charge now button Setting a charging Schedule Select the vehicle icon on the main menu, and then select “Charging Schedule” to display the “Charging schedule” screen. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 50 To set a charging schedule, select “Add.” The add event screen displays, and you can select your desired charging mode. Select “Start at set time” to set the charging start time, or select “Start and stop at set times” to also set a stop time. Operate the screen to select your desired time(s), and then select “OK.” You can also use the repeat settings to apply the charging schedule to multiple days. Select the desired day(s) of the week and then select “OK” to repeat the charging schedule for those days. After all the settings are complete, select “Save” to register the schedule. After the schedule(s) are registered to the vehicle, charging is carried out according to the charging schedule settings when the power switch is in the OFF position and the AC charging connector is connected to the vehicle. You can turn registered schedules on or off by selecting the “Edit” button. DC CHARGING PROCEDURE DC charging is performed at a charging station, and typically takes less time to charge the traction battery than AC charging. Before charging, confirm the following: • The parking brake is set. • The headlights, emergency flashers and interior lights, and other electrical components are switched off. • The power switch is OFF. • Each part of the DC charging cable/station is in good condition. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 51 Charging your Solterra 1 Open the charging port door. The charging inlet light illuminates. 2 Press the release button to open the AC charging inlet cap, and then press the release button to open the DC charging inlet cap. Insert the DC charging connector firmly and fully into the charging inlet. The DC charging connector shape and treatment will differ depending on the type of DC charger. Perform the operations in accordance to handling procedures of the DC charger. Operate the DC charger and start charging, confirming that the charging indicator illuminates. Charging starts after a system check is complete. After Charging Operate the DC charger and stop the charging in accordance to the handling procedures of the DC charger. Remove the DC charging connector. Be sure to close the AC charging inlet cap, the DC charging inlet cap, and the charging port door. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 52 USING MY ROOM MODE My Room Mode is a convenient feature for car camping or creating a comfortable interior while charging your Solterra. When the charging cable is connected to the vehicle, electrical components such as the air conditioning system and audio system can be used by the power supply from an external power source. To start My Room mode, use the following steps: 1. Connect the charge cable to the vehicle and begin charging. NOTE: For charging instructions, please refer to page 43 for AC charging and 51 for DC charging. 2. Turn the power switch to ON while charging. The My Room Mode settings screen is automatically displayed on the Multi-Information Display. 3. Operate the meter control switches to select “Yes”, and then press “OK.” My room mode is started and the air conditioning system, audio system, etc. can be used. When starting My Room Mode, the electric power balance will be automatically displayed on the Multi-information display. An approximation of the electricity balance (the balance between the amount of electricity provided and electricity consumed) during My Room Mode can be checked. Your Solterra will charge more slowly during My Room Mode because incoming electricity is partially diverted to the climate control and audio systems. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING 53 POWER SWITCH Each time you press the power switch without depressing the brake pedal, the power mode will change as follows: ACC, ON, OFF. Accessory: Provides power to some electrical components, such as the audio system. “ACCESSORY” is displayed on the multi-information display. Power ON: All electrical components can be used. “POWER ON” is displayed on the multi-information display OFF: Power is switched off (emergency flashers can still be used). STARTING THE VEHICLE With Power Switch To start the EV system: 1. Make sure the charge cable is disconnected. 2. Sit in the driver’s seat with the access key fob. 3. Make sure the vehicle is in the “P” shift position. 4. Depress the brake pedal. 5. When the keyless entry system indicator and a message appear on the Combination Meter, briefly press the power switch. 6. Check that the “READY” indicator is illuminated in the Combination Meter. OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 54 READY Indicator The READY indicator light in the Combination Meter illuminates when the EV system is running, and your Solterra is ready for driving. Be sure to check for the READY indicator when starting your vehicle, as there are no engine sounds or vibrations in the all-electric system. Ensure the indicator is off when turning your Solterra off. DRIVING THE VEHICLE Rotary Shifter 1 Rotary Shifter: To shift to D or R, slide the dial shift down and turn right or left in the direction of the arrow on the shift position indicator. To shift to N, slide the dial shift down and briefly hold. Release the rotary shifter after each shifting operation to allow it to return to its regular position. 2 Shift Position Indicator: The currently selected shift position is illuminated. The selected position also displays in the Combination Meter. 3 Park Position Switch: Fully stop your Solterra and press the P position switch. When the shift position is changed to P, the switch illuminates. When shifting from P to another position, depress the brake pedal and operate the rotary shifter. If the shifter is operated without depressing the brake pedal, a buzzer sounds and the shift operation is canceled. OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 55 Power Meter The Power meter displays EV system output or regeneration level: 1 Charge Area: Displays regeneration status. Regenerated energy will be used to charge the EV battery (traction battery). 2 Power Area: Displays the EV system output (acceleration force) while driving. Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System Your Solterra makes a sound in order to warn nearby pedestrians of the vehicle’s approach. You may hear the sound inside the vehicle. The sound changes in accordance with driving speed and stops when vehicle speed is about 23 mph or more. Drive Mode Select Using the Drive Mode select switch, you can adjust the driving mode to suit your different driving conditions or preferences. Each time the switch is pressed, the system changes between Power mode, ECO Drive Mode, and Normal Mode: • Normal Mode: Provides a good balance of electrical consumption performance, quietness, and drive performance. Normal Mode is suitable for typical driving situations. • Power Mode: Controls the EV system to speed up reaction to accelerator operation, providing powerful acceleration. When the Power Mode is selected, the power mode indicator appears in the Combination Meter. • ECO Drive Mode: Moderates the driving force for accelerator operation, and is suited for improving power consumption efficiency. When the ECO Drive Mode is selected, the ECO Drive Mode indicator appears in the Combination Meter. Drive Mode Select Switch OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 56 Regenerative Braking The driving range is extended by actively using regenerative braking to store electricity in the traction battery. During regenerative braking, kinetic energy is converted to electric energy and deceleration force can be obtained in conjunction with the electric motor (traction motor) charging the EV battery (traction battery). Regenerative braking is activated in the following situations: • The accelerator pedal is released while driving with the shift position in D. • The brake pedal is depressed while driving with the shift position in D. If “Regenerative Braking Limited Press Brake to Decelerate” appears on the Multi-information display, depress the brake pedal to decelerate the vehicle. Regenerative Braking Power Selection Mode Operating the paddle shift control switches enables driving with a fixed regenerative braking power when the acceleration pedal is released. The regenerative braking power can be selected from 4 levels. The number of the arrows (regenerative braking power indicator) on the Multi-information display increases as regenerative braking power becomes stronger. With the shift position in D, operate the “-” paddle shift control switch to increase the regenerative braking power. Operate the “+” paddle shift control switch to decrease regenerative braking power. The regenerative braking power indicator arrows are displayed on the Multi-information display. The regenerative braking power selection is automatically deactivated in the following situations: • The shift position is shifted to a position other than D • The “+” paddle shift switch is pressed and held • X-MODE® is activated • S-PEDAL DRIVE is operating Paddle Shift Control Switches OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 57 S-PEDAL DRIVE S-PEDAL DRIVE provides a driving experience unique to electric vehicles, reducing the driving burden by allowing you to use the regenerative braking system to keep your foot on the accelerator for more convenience. With S-PEDAL DRIVE, you can use the accelerator pedal to control both acceleration and regenerative deceleration of the vehicle. To activate S-PEDAL DRIVE, press the switch located in the center console. When activated, the regenerative braking force when the accelerator is released becomes stronger. S-PEDAL DRIVE cannot be used when X-MODE® is activated. NOTE: • Even when using S-PEDAL DRIVE, you must press the brake pedal to come to a complete stop. • If the EV battery (traction battery) is near full charge, or the EV battery temperature is very high or very low, regenerative braking will be limited and may not operate. S-PEDAL DRIVE Switch OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 58 State of Charge and Vehicle Range The State of Charge (SOC) gauge in the Combination Meter displays the amount of charge remaining in the traction battery. Nearby the SOC gauge, the Driving Range displays the mileage for which a sufficient level of driving performance can be provided, estimated based on the remaining charge of the traction battery, the state of the traction battery, the outside temperature, and other factors. When the air conditioning system is operating, the air conditioning icon is displayed along with the estimated range. When the outside temperature is high or low, the traction battery output may be decreased, causing the possible driving distance to be shorter. Charge the traction battery earlier than usual in these situations. OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 59 PARKING BRAKE Manual Mode To apply the parking brake, depress the brake pedal and pull the parking brake switch up. The indicator light illuminates, showing “PARK” in the Combination Meter. To release the parking brake manually, depress the brake pedal and push the parking brake switch down with the Power Switch in the “ON” position. To automatically release the parking brake, gently press the accelerator pedal with the rotary shifter in the “D” or “R” position. NOTE: Automatic parking brake release will not work unless all the doors are closed and your seatbelt is fastened. Automatic Mode To activate automatic mode, depress the brake pedal and pull and hold the parking brake switch up until a buzzer sounds and a message is shown on the Multi-information display. With automatic mode activated, the parking brake operates as follows: • When the shift position is shifted out of the P position, the parking brake will be released, and the parking brake indicator turns off. • When the shift position is shifted to P, the parking brake will be set, and the parking brake indicator light illuminates. To deactivate automatic mode, depress the brake pedal and press and hold the parking brake switch until a buzzer sounds and message is shown on the Multi-information display. Parking Brake Switch OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 60 Brake Hold Brake Hold gives your feet a break by automatically holding your Subaru in place when at a complete stop, such as a traffic signal, even after you release the brake pedal. Press the Brake Hold switch on the center console to turn on the function. The indicator in the combination meter will illuminate. While your Subaru is being held by this function, the “HOLD” operation indicator in the combination meter will illuminate. The function is canceled when you depress the accelerator pedal with the shift position in D, allowing a smooth start. Press the switch again to turn it off. The function works in the D (or N) shift position. NOTE: • For this system to work your seatbelt must be fastened. • Make sure to turn off this function before entering an automatic car wash. ICON MODE Brake Hold ON Brake Hold IN OPERATION OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 61 X-MODE® X-MODE® gives improved handling abilities off road. Using X-MODE®, you can drive more comfortably even in slippery road conditions, such as mud or snow, including uphill and downhill. You can activate the system when the vehicle speed is less than 13 mph. If the vehicle speed reaches 24 mph or more with X-MODE® active, the system is automatically deactivated. X-MODE®, and Downhill Assist Control, automatically reactivate when the vehicle speed drops below 21 mph. To activate the X-MODE® system, press the X-MODE® switch once to select SNOW/DIRT and again to select DEEP SNOW/MUD. While the system is active, the SNOW/DIRT or DEEP SNOW/MUD indicator appears in the Combination Meter Display. To deactivate X-MODE®, press the switch a third time. • SNOW/DIRT is suitable for driving on slippery road surfaces such as snow or gravel, where the points of contact between the tires and road surface are visible. • DEEP SNOW/MUD is suitable for driving on roads where the tires can become buried, such as deep snow, dry sand, or muddy roads. X-MODE® Switch Snow/Dirt Indicator Deep Snow/Mud Indicator OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 62 Downhill Assist Control The Downhill Assist Control function helps maintain a consistent vehicle speed when driving down steep hills or declines. Downhill Assist Control is automatically activated and set in standby mode when X-MODE® is activated. The Downhill Assist Control Indicator appears in white when in standby, and the function operates when vehicle speed is less than approximately 18 mph. Grip Control The Grip Control function can maintain a constant speed (from about 1 to 6 mph) without slipping on rough roads, including uphill and downhill slopes. To activate grip control, first press the X-MODE® switch (activating either SNOW/DIRT or DEEP SNOW/MUD), and then operate the Grip Control Adjustment switch down. X-MODE® and Downhill Assist are set in standby and Grip Control activates. You can adjust the speed using the Grip Control Adjustment switch. Grip Control is deactivated by pressing the X-MODE® switch again, completely stopping the vehicle with the brake pedal, or when vehicle speed reaches 13 mph or more. Grip Control Adjustment Switch OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 63 TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE With Power Switch To stop the EV system: 1. Stop your Subaru completely. 2. Press the “P” position switch on the rotary shifter. 3. Press the power switch. The EV system will stop, and the power and meter display will be turned off. Make sure that “ACCESSORY” or “IGNITION ON” is not shown on the Multi-information display. NOTE: The windows will remain active for about 45 seconds after the power switch is turned to ACC or OFF, or until a front door is opened. Automatic EV Shut Off To help preserve the charge of your high voltage battery and keep you and your passengers safe, your Solterra is equipped with an Automatic EV Shut Off safety feature. The Automatic EV Shut Off feature automatically shuts off the EV system when the shift position is in P with the EV system operating for an extended period. The EV system will automatically shut off after approximately 1 hour if it has been left operating while the shift position is in P. The timer for the automatic EV system shut off feature will reset if the brake pedal is depressed or if the shift position is in a position other than P. NOTE: After the vehicle is parked, if the door is locked with the door lock switch from the inside or the mechanical key from the outside, the automatic EV system shut off feature will be disabled. The timer for the automatic EV system shut off feature will be re-enabled if the drivers door is opened. OPERATING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE 64 FOLDING THE REAR SEAT First, lower the headrests. Then, pull up on the seat angle adjustment lever and fold down the seats. To return the seatback to its original position, pass the seatbelt outside the seatbelt guide, and then raise the seatback until it locks into place. Make sure the seatback is in a securely locked position. CHILD SAFETY LOCKS The child safety locks are located on the inside edges of the rear doors. In the locked position, the rear doors can only be opened from the outside. Seat Angle Adjustment Lever PASSENGER AND CARGO AREAS 65 LATCH/ANCHOR Your Subaru is equipped with Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH). For maximum safety, first carefully read the LATCH system instructions from the device manufacturer, as well as the installation instructions in your Owner’s Manual, to properly install the LATCH compatible restraint system. Use the appropriate seatbelts or anchorages provided in your Subaru. Children age 12 and under must properly occupy the rear seat at all times. For more information, please refer to “For safety and security” in your Owner’s Manual. PASSENGER AND CARGO AREAS 66 REAR SEAT REMINDER (if equipped) The Rear Seat Reminder system assists you in preventing a child or pet from being left in your Subaru, prompting you to confirm the presence of passengers and cargo in the rear seats. The system monitors the opening and closing of the rear doors. It does not physically sense the presence of a child or pet. The system activates when the rear doors are opened and closed and the EV system is started within 10 minutes, or when a rear door has been opened and closed after the EV system has already started. If a rear door is opened and then closed within approximately 2 seconds, the rear seat reminder function may not operate. When the power switch is turned to the “OFF” position, the system warns you audibly and with an “Attention: Check Rear Seat” message in the Multi-information display. You can turn the Rear Seat Reminder off in the Multi-information display. Rear Passenger Seatbelt Reminder Lights To help keep your passengers safe, your Solterra has rear passenger seatbelt reminder lights. The lights illuminate and the rear passenger seatbelt warning buzzer sounds to alert the rear passenger that their seatbelt is not fastened. If the seatbelt is unfastened, the buzzer sounds intermittently for a certain period of time after the vehicle reaches a certain speed. PASSENGER AND CARGO AREAS 67 CARGO AREA AND COVER (if equipped) The cargo area is equipped with several tie-down hooks to secure your cargo with a cargo net or ropes, and the height of the deck board can adjusted to two heights for storage convenience. Fold and set the deck board upright to easily access the under deck tray. If equipped, use the detachable cargo cover to protect contents in the cargo area from direct sunlight. Pull the cover toward the rear of your Subaru and insert both ends of the cover into the catches. PASSENGER AND CARGO AREAS 68 FLAT TIRE REPAIR KIT Your Solterra comes equipped with a flat tire repair kit and towing hook (eye bolt). The TPMS screen shows individual tire pressure in the Multi-information Display. Use the Meter Control Switches to display the TPMS screen. Tire pressure specification is listed on the tire and loading label located on the driver’s side door pillar and in the table below. The button will change depending upon the situation. 3 Status Icons: Displays the clock and icons with information about communication status. Select the clock to access time settings. SUBARU MULTIMEDIA OVERVIEW 74 TOUCH SCREEN OPERATION Operations are performed by touching the screen directly with your finger. MOTION ACTION USE Touch Quickly touch and release once. Push and hold to adjust the volume continuously. 3 Talk Switch: Press the talk switch to start voice control. When your phone is paired, press and hold the talk switch to access your phone’s assistant. 4 Presets/Skip: Press to toggle through your radio station presets or change a media track. Press and hold to fast-forward or rewind media or scan for the radio station with the best broadcast frequency. Media/Radio playback begins when you release the switch. 5 MODE Switch: Press the switch to change the media source. Press and hold the switch to pause or mute. Press and hold again to cancel. SUBARU MULTIMEDIA OVERVIEW 76 REGISTERING A USER PROFILE When you create an account in the Solterra Connect app, you also create a profile as part of the account. A profile is a cloud-stored collection of your select driver preferences and settings, from the Solterra Connect app and your Solterra, giving you a more personalized Subaru experience. You can save the driving position, air conditioning, multimedia, and various other settings. There is no need to manage any overarching list of preferences and settings; they are seamlessly stored/updated in the cloud when you adjust any preference or setting in your Solterra or in the Solterra Connect app. For added convenience, other Solterra Connect app users, such as family or friends, can create an account/profile for easy use, without needing to own the vehicle. There is no need to change each other’s settings if multiple drivers use the vehicle. NOTE: An active Drive Connect subscription is required to have a Driver Profile. The first registered profile acts as the “primary driver” profile. The primary driver may enable/manage trial or subscriptions and payments, receive vehicle health reports, and operate Remote Connect commands or designate them to others, in addition to other important settings. To register a profile for the first time, follow these steps: 1 After starting the vehicle, the language selection screen is displayed. Select the desired language. USER PROFILE 77 2 Select “Enter phone number.” 3 Enter your mobile phone number and select “Send.” 4 On your phone, download the Solterra Connect App from the SMS link, start the app, and follow the instructions to scan the QR code on the screen or enter an authentication code. USER PROFILE 78 5 Complete setup on your phone to enable the subscription or trial in the Solterra Connect app, and then select “I’ve completed app setup.” 6 After registering your profile, pair your phone through Bluetooth®. To continue with setup, select “Yes.” MANAGING PROFILES You can choose to activate a registered profile or may wish to sign out of a profile (for example, before handing the vehicle over to a valet). Select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then either select the profile you wish to activate or “Sign out” to deactivate the profile. NOTE: You may need to enter the PIN assigned to the profile to activate it if the registered device is not already connected via Bluetooth®. USER PROFILE 79 INTELLIGENT ASSISTANT Intelligent Assistant combines the native on-board Assistant voice command functions with off-board cloud computing, creating a natural and easy-to-use voice vehicle interaction experience. Intelligent Assistant is a subscription-based service through the Solterra Connect app that allows you to control the multimedia system with voice command and allows you to operate cloud navigation, integrated streaming, radio, phone and climate. Without the subscription, Assistant is still able to support voice commands for radio, phone and climate. In addition, Intelligent Assistant provides the following enhancements: • Enhanced Voice Recognition / Natural Language Understanding: Improved voice performance by utilizing both in-vehicle and cloud based voice recognition. • Personalized experience: Offers a unique experience catered to you by utilizing learned data stored in the cloud. • Up-to-date information: Cloud content is constantly kept up-to-date in the Subaru server, so there is no need to visit a Subaru Retailer for a data update. USING VOICE CONTROL Activate voice control with Intelligent Assistant and give voice commands related to cloud navigation, radio/audio, integrated streaming, phone, and vehicle controls. Assistant voice control (without a subscription) allows control of audio, phone, and vehicle settings. Voice control can be activated by any of the following operations: • Say the wake up phrase “Hey Subaru” or “OK Subaru” • Press the talk switch on the steering wheel • Select the voice search button (microphone/magnifying glass) on the multimedia screen Voice control can be stopped by saying, “Cancel,” selecting the “X” on the voice recognition screen, or pressing and holding the talk switch on the steering wheel. INTELLIGENT ASSISTANT 82 3 Enter the search text and select “Go.” 4 When the list of results is displayed, select the desired item NOTE: • Operation of the screen is restricted when the vehicle is movement exceeds about 5 mph. • Keyboard search is not available when Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ screens are active. INTELLIGENT ASSISTANT 83 RADIO AM / FM / SXM Radio Your Subaru is equipped standard with AM/FM radio, including HD Radio®. HD Radio® technology allows you to receive digital broadcasts (where available) in addition to stereo broadcasts. Digital broadcasts provide free, crystal clear audio with no static or distortion. The radio automatically blends to an HD Radio® signal in AM or FM where available. To listen to the radio, select your preferred station or service: 1. Select the music note icon on the main menu, and then select “Sources” 2. Select “Radio” for your source. 3. Select the station or service as needed: • Favorites • Tune • FM Radio • AM Radio • Sirius XM 4. Select the broadcasting station or genre. Setting a Preset/Favorite Station To set a station as a preset/favorite, select the heart icon on the multimedia screen. Select the icon again to cancel the preset/favorite setting. Radio mode has a mix preset function, which can store up to 20 stations from any of the AM/FM and SXM bands. MULTIMEDIA 84 Internet Radio Information such as the song name, cover art, and station logo is available for the track broadcast on the radio while listening to AM/FM/HD radio. This information can be retrieved from the Gracenote® server via DCM or Wi-Fi and displayed. When connected to the internet via DCM or Wi-Fi, the broadcast connection can switch to the internet if the radio signal reception worsens. This enables continued listening of the same broadcast. This function is not available in some countries or areas. MEDIA USB / iPod / iPhone You can play media using a USB flash device, iPod, or iPhone, through the USB port in the wireless charging area. If using an iPod or iPhone, make sure to use an Apple certified cable or MFi certified cable for proper operation. Connect the device to the USB port. Then, select the music note icon on the main menu, select “sources,” and then select the device name (or USB) and operate the device as necessary. NOTE: This function cannot be used while Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ is connected with a USB cable. For more information, please refer to “Audio” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. Bluetooth® Audio Operation You can use the Bluetooth® connection between your device and the Subaru Multimedia System to listen to the songs and other media on your device without needing to operate the device directly, enhancing your convenience and safety. First, pair the device with the multimedia system. Next, select the music note icon on the main menu, select “sources,” and then select the device name (or Bluetooth®) and operate the audio playing as necessary. For more information, please refer to page 121 in this Getting Started Guide or “Connecting a smart phone or communication device” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. MULTIMEDIA 85 Integrated Streaming Integrated streaming services for listening to media, among other helpful features, are available with an active Solterra Connect and Wi-Fi Connect subscription. You must first download and install the Solterra Connect app and link your music account. Select the music note icon on the main menu, select “sources,” and then select the desired streaming music service name and operate the screen. Some of the special functions include storing songs to libraries, creating stations to play songs similar to music currently playing, and the ability to love/dislike audio to store or remove similar content. For more information, please refer to “Audio” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. MULTIMEDIA 86 PAIRING A PHONE Your Subaru has convenient Bluetooth® hands-free technology to manage your phone and audio systems, allowing you to receive and initiate calls, or play music directly from your device while keeping it stowed for safety. A cellular phone or portable device must be registered in order to use hands-free calling or Bluetooth® audio. Once registration is complete, Bluetooth® will automatically be connected each time the multimedia system is started. If there is no connected Bluetooth® devices with multimedia system, you can display the registration screen by pressing and holding the talk switch on the steering wheel. NOTE: A cellular phone must support the multimedia system specifications in order to connect to the system. While connected to Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, the hands-free phone screen for Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ may not be displayed, depending on conditions. For more information and step-by-step registration instructions, please refer to page 121 in this Getting Started Guide or “Connecting a smartphone or communication device” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. MAKING A CALL Once your phone is paired, you can make a call through voice recognition by pressing the “Talk Switch” on the steering wheel. and saying “Call [Name].” To make a call from the multimedia system, start by pushing the “Phone” switch on the steering wheel or the phone icon on the main menu. Then, select your preferred method of initiating the call: • Recents – Select to see the latest 100 call history entries and choose the contact to call. • Favorites – This allows you to place a call to one of your registered favorites. When “Sync contacts” is ON, cell phone favorites are automatically transferred to the multimedia system. • Contacts – This allows you to call a contact from your phone. • Keypad – This allows you to dial any number you would like. PHONE 87 RECEIVING A CALL To receive an incoming call, press the “Phone” switch on the steering wheel or the “Accept” button on the multimedia screen. To decline an incoming call, press the Decline button on the multimedia screen. TEXT MESSAGE Messages are transferred from the cellular phone connected for hands-free calls. The multimedia system can be used to check, reply, and send messages (excluding MMS). Depending on the cellular phone model being connected, it may not be possible to transfer messages to the multimedia system. If the cellular phone does not support messaging, this function cannot be used. Receiving and Replying to Messages When an SMS or MMS message is received, a new message notification is displayed at the top of the screen. Pressing the play button reads the message aloud. PHONE 88 Select the reply arrow or the Voice Search button to reply to a new message. The voice command system can be used to reply using templates (quick reply). With a Solterra Connect subscription, voice command can even be used to enter a custom text of the message. (Templates can also still be used to reply.) Sending a New Message New SMS messages can be created. First, select the phone icon on the main menu. Select “Messages,” and then “New message.” Enter the message using the voice command system and send the message. PHONE 89 CLOUD NAVIGATION OVERVIEW Cloud Navigation brings maps, personalization and intelligent assistant together in the multimedia system. The system allows you to use voice-activated commands or touchscreen to search for directions, find points of interest or explore local businesses. Features provide route details, turn-by-turn guidance options, alternate routes, and views of live traffic. As part of the Drive Connect subscription service, Cloud Navigation offers a solution whether you have network connection or limited connectivity. The map information is based on vehicle location and updates with the latest information as you drive your Solterra and routes are set. If you do not yet have a subscription, a service contract screen will be displayed when the power switch is turned to ON. Simply select “Subscribe.” For more information and step-by-step directions for using Cloud Navigation, please refer to page 127 in this Getting Started Guide or “Navigation” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. NAVIGATION 90 SUBARU SOLTERRA CONNECT OVERVIEW Subaru Solterra Connect services* are designed to add convenience features to your drive and provide help in your time of need. These include Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, SOS Emergency Assistance, and Enhanced Roadside Assistance. Located in the overhead console of your Solterra is the SOS button, linking you to the Solterra Connect Customer Care Center that is there to support you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Flip down the protective cover and press the SOS button for SOS Emergency Assistance* in the event of an emergency, or to reach a Solterra Connect Customer Care Agent for Enhanced Roadside Assistance.* During an emergency, The answering agent will determine your vehicle’s location, assess the emergency, and dispatch the necessary assistance. Enhanced Roadside Assistance can help with a wide range of needs, such as: towing, flat tire, etc. For a description of the Enhanced Roadside Assistance services and their limitations, please see the Subaru Solterra Connect Terms and Conditions. For more information, please refer to “For safety and security” in your Owner’s Manual. * Access to Subaru Solterra Connect services requires an active subscription. Not available in all States. See your Subaru Retailer for details. Subaru Solterra Connect service is available by subscription on select, telematics hardware equipped vehicles. A variety of subscription terms are available for purchase. See your Subaru Retailer, call 866-384-3574, or push the “SOS” button in your vehicle for further subscription details. CONNECTED SERVICES 91 REMOTE CONNECT Remote Connect is a smartphone application that lets you view and remotely control certain aspects of your vehicle. Remote Connect requires the Solterra Connect app and an active subscription. With Remote Connect you can conveniently use the Solterra Connect app to remotely control a host of features, including the following: • Start/Stop Vehicle • Lock/Unlock Vehicle • Hazard Lights ON • See Odometer • See Vehicle Status • Lock/Unlock back door • Climate Control (A/C and defrost) • Rear Seat Reminder Notification • Climate Control Timer settings (schedule) • Charge Management Remote connect services are registered with a profile (see page 77 for step-by-step directions). For more information, refer to “Connected Services” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual and see your Subaru Retailer for complete details. SERVICE CONNECT Service Connect requires the Solterra Connect app and an active subscription. Service Connect keeps you connected with your Solterra, providing important vehicle data: • Vehicle Health Reports, including: • Current Vehicle Alerts • Vehicle Condition Status • Vehicle Alert Notifications For more information, please refer to “Connected Services” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual and see your Subaru Retailer for details. CONNECTED SERVICES 92 WI-FI CONNECTION AND HOTSPOT The multimedia system can be connected to the Internet by connecting to a Wi-Fi network, including establishing a Wi-Fi connection using a smartphone that supports tethering. For details on setting up tethering, refer to documents such as the instruction manual for the smartphone. To connect to an available network, select the settings gear on the main menu, and then select “Wi-Fi” in the sub menu. For step-by-step instructions to connect to Wi-Fi, please refer to page 124 in this Getting Started Guide and “Connecting a smartphone or communication device” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. The Wi-Fi Hotspot function can also be used to set the Wi-Fi access point and connect to a Wi-Fi device. Use of the Hotspot function requires a Connected Car from AT&T® trial/ subscription. For step-by-step instructions to connect to a Wi-Fi Hotspot, please refer to page 124 in this Getting Started Guide and “Connecting a smartphone or communication device” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. CONNECTED SERVICES 93 SETTINGS AND UPDATES OVERVIEW Many settings can be customized for different features of your Solterra. Select the settings gear icon in the main menu for a menu of options to customize. SETTINGS AND UPDATES 94 Performing Software Updates Software updates provide enhancements to the system, improving functions and operations for greater usability. Your preferred Subaru Retailer can update the system software for you. Over-the-Air updates may be pushed directly to your vehicle from time to time, keeping your multimedia system up to date. You can also update the system software yourself with a USB flash drive. The update process involves downloading and installing the software update. System functionality will be restricted during installation. CLOCK You can adjust the clock manually or set the clock to adjust automatically on the date and time setting screen. To access the setting screen with a single step, select the clock in the status icons at the top of the multimedia screen. For more information on clock settings and full step-by-step instructions on adjusting the clock both manually and automatically, please refer to page 119 in this Getting Started Guide. SETTINGS AND UPDATES 95 SUBARU SAFETY SENSE OVERVIEW Your Solterra features a variety of safety systems that are the culmination of everything Subaru Engineers know about safety. These systems are referred to as SUBARU Safety Sense and Driver Assist Technologies and add confidence to every trip you and your passengers take. Working together, these systems provide enhanced awareness, safety, and convenience in front, to the sides, and behind your Subaru. SUBARU Safety Sense technologies include: • Pre-Collision System • Lane Departure Alert • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control • Lane Tracing Assist • Road Sign Assist • Emergency Driving Stop System OPERATION SUBARU Safety Sense uses a camera and sensors to support collision avoidance and damage mitigation, providing a greater peace of mind and comfort when driving. If need be, the SUBARU Safety Sense system can apply the brakes and/or reduce EV system output to help avoid or reduce the severity of a collision. During these events, the system will provide audible and visual alerts to assist you in making decisions. Since the camera and sensors in the front window glass and front grille cover are used to detect collision objects, it is important that the camera, windshield, and area around the camera and sensors are kept clean. Please refer to page 112 in this Getting Started Guide for more details. SUBARU Safety Sense Camera SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 96 FUNCTIONS Pre-Collision System The Pre-Collision System helps keep you and your passengers safe with sensors to detect obstacles in the path of the vehicle and a collection of complementary functions to help prevent or minimize a collision. The system includes the following functions: • Pre-Collision Braking • Emergency Steering Assist • Low Speed Acceleration Suppression The Pre-Collision System can be disabled/enabled and the warning timing can be customized in the Multi-information Display (see page 99). Pre-Collision Braking This function helps prevent or minimize a frontal collision with another vehicle, pedestrian, or other objects by providing visual and audible warnings. When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with a detectable object is high, a warning operates to alert you to take evasive action, and the potential brake pressure is increased to help you avoid the collision. If the system determines that the possibility of a collision is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied to help avoid the collision or help reduce the impact of the collision. The system may also alert you and apply the brakes if it detects a risk of collision with a vehicle at an intersection, an oncoming vehicle while turning, or a pedestrian crossing the road after turning. SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 97 Emergency Steering Assist If the system determines that the possibility of a collision is high, there is sufficient space within your lane of travel to perform evasive maneuvers, and you are operating the steering wheel, Emergency Steering Assist provides steering assistance to help enhance vehicle stability and prevent lane departure. During steering assistance, the pre-collision warning will operate along with an icon on the Multi-information Display. Acceleration Suppression at Low Speed When you are driving at a low speed, if the accelerator pedal is strongly depressed and the system determines that there is a possibility of a collision, EV system output will be restrained or the brakes will be weakly applied to restrict acceleration. During operation, a buzzer will sound and a warning indicator and message will be displayed on the Multi-information Display. SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 98 Pre-Collision System OFF Operate the meter control switches to enable or disable the Pre-Collision System in the Multi-information Display. You can also customize the warning timing of the system to your preference. When these functions are off, a yellow Pre-Collision System OFF indicator illuminates in the Combination Meter. Lane Departure Alert Lane Departure Alert provides audible and visual warnings if you are about to depart your lane of travel and can also slightly operate the steering wheel to help avoid lane departure. When traveling at 30 mph or more, if the system determines your vehicle may depart from its lane, a warning is displayed along with an audible alert or steering wheel vibration. Once activated, the Lane Departure Alert indicator and lane display appear in the Combination Meter. If the system determines that lane departure is likely, it provides steering assistance to help avoid deviation from the lane. If the system determines that the steering wheel has not been operated for a certain amount of time or is not being firmly gripped, a warning message may display and buzzer may sound to alert you. Always pay attention to your surroundings and continue operating the steering wheel to ensure safety. This function also detects if the vehicle is swaying and displays a suggestion to take a break with an audible warning. Lane Departure Alert OFF Operate the meter control switches to enable or disable Lane Departure Alert in the Multi-information Display. You can also customize the warning timing and alert options of the system to your preference. When these functions are off, the Lane Departure Alert indicator is not illuminated in the Combination Meter. SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 99 Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is a driving support system intended to reduce the burden on you when driving on highways and expressways. Using radar to detect vehicles ahead, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control determines the current vehicle-to-vehicle distance, and operates to maintain a suitable distance from the vehicle ahead. When a vehicle in front of you is identified, a lead vehicle indicator will be displayed in the Multi-information Display. You can change the desired following distance from the lead vehicle by pressing the Following Distance button. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control does not include functions which will prevent or avoid collisions with vehicles ahead of your vehicle. Therefore, if there is ever any possibility of danger, the driver must take immediate and direct control of the vehicle and act appropriately in order to ensure safety. To operate Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, first press the Driving Assist Mode Select switch on the steering wheel to select Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control indicator illuminates. Then, use the accelerator to reach your desired vehicle speed (approximately 20 mph or more) and finally press the Driving Assist switch to set the vehicle speed (see page 102). The set speed can be adjusted using the “RES+” and “—” switches. Lane Tracing Assist Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) can be used in conjunction with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to reduce your driving burden and help keep your Solterra in the lane. When driving on a road with clear lane lines with the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control operating, Lane Tracing Assist detects lane lines and preceding and surrounding vehicles using the front camera and radar sensor, and the steering wheel is operated to maintain the vehicle’s lane position. Always pay attention to your surroundings and continue operating the steering wheel to ensure safety. When Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is operating, this function can be activated by pressing the Lane Tracing Assist Switch . When (LTA) is activated, the Lane Tracing Assist indicator, lane display and steering icon are illuminated. SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 100 Conventional Cruise Control Conventional Cruise Control maintains a constant traveling speed you set, but it does not adapt to the other vehicles in front of you. To activate Conventional Cruise Control, press the Driving Assist Mode Select switch to select cruise control. The cruise control indicator illuminates. Then, use the accelerator to reach your desired speed (approximately 20 mph or more) and press the Driving Assist Switch to set the vehicle speed. The set speed can be adjusted using the “RES+” and “—” switches. Road Sign Assist The Road Sign Assist system detects specific road signs using the front camera and/or navigation system (if equipped and when speed limit information is available) and shows the sign on the display. The function can also warn you through the display and with audible alerts. For example, if the system detects that your vehicle’s speed exceeds the speed limit of the displayed sign or the system detects a do not enter sign and determines the vehicle has entered a no-entry area, the sign on the display will be emphasized and a buzzer will sound. The Road Sign Assist system can be customized in the Multiinformation Display. The following types of road signs can be displayed: • Speed Limit • Do Not Enter • No U-turn • No Turn On Red • Stop • Yield • Warning SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 101 Emergency Driving Stop System The Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) automatically decelerates and stops the vehicle within its lane if the driver becomes unable to continue driving, such as having suffered a medical emergency. EDSS operates only when Lane Tracing Assist is on and vehicle speed is approximately 30 mph or more EDSS does not operate if Lane Tracing Assist or Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are cancelled, or if driver operations are detected (e.g., operating the steering wheel, brake, or accelerator, etc.). During LTA (Lane Tracing Assist) control, if the system does not detect driving operations, such as the driver not holding the steering wheel, and determines the driver is not responsive, the vehicle will be decelerated and stopped within its current lane to help avoid a collision or reduce the impact of a collision. The system moves through two warning phases, providing warnings to the driver with audible beeps and messages on the screen. The system also begins to decelerate slowly in the second warning phase. If the system determines the driver is not responsive, then the system enters a deceleration stop phase, and finally a stop and hold phase, applying the parking brake and emergency flashers to warn other drivers of the emergency. DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES 1 Driving Assist Mode Select: Press to select Dynamic Radar Cruise Control or Conventional Cruise Control. 2 Driving Assist: Press to activate the system and set the vehicle speed. 3 Lane Tracing Assist: Press to activate/deactivate Lane Tracing Assist when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is operating. 4 Cancel: Press to cancel operation. 5 Following Distance: Press to adjust the following distance in four stages during Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. 6 Resume (RES)/Increase Speed (+) and Decrease Speed (-): Press “RES+” or “—” to adjust the target speed. SUBARU SAFETY SENSE 102 DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES OVERVIEW Your Solterra features a variety of safety systems that are the culmination of everything Subaru Engineers know about safety. Driver Assist Technologies include: • Rear View Monitor System • Panoramic View Monitor • Rear Cross Traffic Alert • Rear Camera Detection • Blind Spot Monitor • Automatic High Beam • Park Assist • Parking Support Brake • Advanced Park • Safe Exit Assist REAR VIEW MONITOR SYSTEM (if equipped) This function provides a clear view of the area behind the vehicle to help avoid obstacles by displaying an image of the view behind the vehicle with fixed guide lines on the screen. An image is automatically displayed on the multimedia screen when you place the shift position in “R.” DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 103 PANORAMIC VIEW MONITOR (if equipped) The Panoramic View Monitor system assists you in driving at low speeds by displaying seamless vision from above the vehicle on the screen that is a composite of images from the front, side, and rear cameras installed on the vehicle. Press the switch in the center console to activate the system (the system also automatically operates when the shift position is in “R”) and to cycle through camera view modes. Panoramic view monitor screen The multimedia screen will display various view modes depending on the shift position selected, allowing you to better see your surroundings and to check for obstacles. Panoramic View Monitor Switch DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 104 You can also adjust the view mode by selecting the display mode switching button. REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA) This function detects a vehicle approaching from the right or left at the rear of the vehicle as you reverse, helping you check difficult to see areas when moving backward. If RCTA detects a vehicle approaching from either side while moving backward, the system provides visual and audible warnings: the indicator light(s) on the side mirror(s) flash, warning lines appear on the corresponding side in the multimedia display, and a warning buzzer sounds. RCTA can be activated/deactivated in the Multi-information Display using the meter control switches. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 105 REAR CAMERA DETECTION (if equipped) When the vehicle is backing up, the Rear Camera Detection function can detect pedestrians in the detection area behind the vehicle. If a pedestrian is detected, a buzzer will sound and an icon will be displayed on the multimedia display to alert you of the pedestrian. BLIND SPOT MONITOR Blind Spot Monitor senses if a vehicle is traveling at the same relative speed in your blind spot, or rapidly approaching from behind in the neighboring lanes, and provides a visual warning. When a vehicle is detected in a blind spot, or approaching rapidly from behind into a blind spot, the outside rear view mirror indicator on the detected side illuminates. If the turn signal lever is operated toward the detected side, Blind Spot Monitor provides an additional level of warning by rapidly flashing the outside rear view mirror indicator. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 106 AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM (AHB) This function uses the SUBARU Safety Sense camera to automatically switch the headlights between high and low beam settings, enhancing safety for both you and other drivers on the road. To activate Automatic High Beam, press the Automatic High Beam switch in the lower left instrument panel and set the headlight control switch to the “AUTO” or headlight low beams position. The AHB indicator illuminates in the Combination Meter. AHB automatically activates the high beams when the forward area is dark, there are no preceding/oncoming vehicles with lights on, and your speed is approximately 21 mph or more. When a preceding/oncoming vehicle with lights on is detected, the forward area is bright, or your speed decreases below approximately 17 mph, AHB automatically switches to low beams. PARK ASSIST (if equipped) The Park Assist function helps guide you into your spot, avoiding dents and dings. The distance from your vehicle to objects, such as a wall, when parallel parking or maneuvering into a garage is measured by the sensors and communicated via the multimedia display and a buzzer. Always check the surrounding area when using this system. When the sensors detect an object, such as a wall, a graphic is shown on the multimedia display depending on the position and distance to the object (as the distance to the object becomes short, the distance segments may blink.) For models with advanced park, the object warning function also informs you of objects along the side of the vehicle, using the display and buzzer, if the objects are within the estimated path of the vehicle. Use the meter control switches to enable/disable Park Assist in the Multi-information Display. The function can be used when the power switch is on, vehicle speed is less than about 6 mph, and a shift position other than P is selected. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 107 PARKING SUPPORT BRAKE The Parking Support Brake system uses sensors to detect objects (and if equipped, pedestrians) when driving at a low speed or backing up, such as when parking. When the system determines that the probability of a collision with a detected object or pedestrian is high, a warning alerts you. If the system determines that the possibility of a collision with a detected object or pedestrian is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied to help avoid the collision or reduce impact. Parking Support Brake is effective with static objects (such as a wall or parked vehicle), both in front of and to the rear of your vehicle and with vehicles approaching or crossing your path from the right or left as you reverse. If equipped, it is also effective with pedestrians to the rear of your vehicle and static objects around your vehicle. Parking Support Brake can be enabled/disabled in the multi-information display. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 108 ADVANCED PARK (if equipped) Advanced Park is a system that assists in safely and smoothly parking in a target parking space by displaying the blind spots around the vehicle and the parking spot through a bird’s eye view, delivering operation guidance through displays and buzzer operation, and changing the shift position, operating the steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal. Additionally, the panoramic view monitor can display the area in front, behind, and from above the vehicle, helping confirm the condition of the area around the vehicle. The system supports perpendicular parking/exiting, parallel parking/exiting, and a memory function. Guidance Screen The multimedia screen displays the guidance screen with controls when Advanced Park is activated. 1 Target Parking Space Box: Indicates the target space 2 Advice Display: Displays operation information/advice 3 Parking Type Change: Select to change the target space or perpendicular/parallel park functions 4 Mode: Select to switch between the memory function and the perpendicular and parallel parking functions 5 Start: Select to begin parking assistance 6 Perpendicular Parking Direction Change: Select to change between forward and reverse perpendicular parking functions 7 Customize Settings: Select to display Advanced Park setting screen 8 Registration: Select to begin registering a parking space DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 109 Advanced Park Operation The Advanced Park function can be used with three easy steps: 1. First, stop your Solterra close to the center of your desired spot (perpendicular to the spot for perpendicular parking, and parallel to the spot for parallel parking). 2. Next, press the Advanced Park Main Switch in the center console instrument panel, checking that the space is displayed on the multimedia display. 3. Adjust parking settings (e.g. parking type, mode, perpendicular parking direction) as needed, and then select the Start button. If needed, perform operations indicated by the advice displays. To register a spot, select and hold the register button before adjusting the parking settings, and then select the Start button to begin parking. Assistance is also available for exiting a parking spot: with the brake pedal depressed and P shift position selected, press the Advanced Park Main Switch, select the arrow on the display in the direction you wish to exit, and select the Start button. Advanced Park Main Switch DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 110 SAFE EXIT ASSIST Safe Exit Assist uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to detect an approaching vehicle or bicycle that may collide with a door when you exit the vehicle, reducing the possibility of a collision. When an approaching vehicle or bicycle is detected, the outside rear view mirror indicator on the detected side illuminates. If the door on the detected side is opened, the outside rear view mirror indicator will blink, a buzzer sounds, and warning is displayed on the Multi-information Display. DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGIES 111 SUBARU SAFETY SENSE CAMERA AND SENSOR PRECAUTIONS Your SUBARU Safety Sense camera and radar sensors are precision components that must be kept free from obstruction and contamination. Always observe the following precautions regarding the camera and radar sensors: • Always keep the windshield clean. If the inside of the windshield where the front camera is installed becomes dirty, contact your Subaru Retailer. • Do not attach stickers (including transparent stickers) or other items to the area of the windshield in front of the camera or on the inside of the windshield in an area that could obstruct the camera’s operation. See page 113 for details. • Do not damage the lens of the front camera or allow it to become dirty. When cleaning the inside of the windshield, do not allow glass cleaner to contact the lens of the front camera. If the lense of the front camera is dirty or damaged, contact your Subaru Retailer. • Do not modify any parts around the front camera, such as the inside rear view mirror or ceiling. • Keep the radar sensors and radar sensor covers clean at all times. Use a soft cloth to clean the sensors so as to avoid marking or damaging them. • Do not attach accessories, stickers (including transparent stickers), aluminum tape, etc. to a radar sensor, radar sensor cover, or the surrounding area • Do not subject a radar sensor or its surrounding area to impact. If a radar sensor, the front grille, or front bumper has been subjected to a impact, have the vehicle inspected by your Subaru Retailer. For more information and complete details, please refer to your Owner’s Manual. WINDSHIELD GLASS AND DASHBOARD The SUBARU Safety Sense camera is a precision component and it is important that the area in front of and around the camera be kept free from dirt, scratches, cracks, fogging, or accessories mounted to the windshield, hood or dashboard. Visual impairments or reflections can affect system performance. Extra caution should be taken when cleaning the windshield to prevent over-spray from cleaning solutions. The image in the following section outlines those areas that must be kept clean and free from obstruction. Please refer to the Owner’s Manual for a complete listing of limitations. CARE AND LIMITATIONS 112 SOLTERRA Do not place stickers or objects in the prohibited area (in gray). FRONT VIEW 113 SUBARU SAFETY SENSE DISCLAIMER SUBARU Safety Sense operates under the assumption that the driver will drive safely, and is designed to help reduce the impact to the occupants in a collision and assist the driver under normal driving conditions. As there is a limit to the degree of recognition accuracy and control performance that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. The driver is solely responsible for paying attention to the vehicle’s surroundings and driving safely. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operations and limitations. The Pre-Collision System is designed to avoid or reduce the severity of frontal impacts. Driving safely is solely the responsibility of the driver. Pay careful attention to the surrounding conditions in order to ensure safe driving. Never use the Pre-Collision System in place of normal braking operations. This system cannot help avoid or reduce the impact of a collision in every situation. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control provides driving assistance to reduce the driver’s burden. This is a great feature to limit the upward travel of the back door to ensure you can reach it or to prevent the back door from contacting a garage ceiling. The opening height can be set with the Multi-information Display by using the meter control switches, or it can also be conveniently set using the Power Back Door itself: 1 Open the back door using the Power Back Door Switch. Pause the back door when it reaches the desired height. 2 Press and hold the Power Back Door Close Switch on the inside edge of the back door for approximately 2 seconds. A buzzer sounds 4 times to confirm the height is set. To change the height setting, cancel the memory height by pressing and holding the Power Back Door Close switch on the inside edge of the back door for approximately 7 seconds. You will hear 4 chirps and then 2 chirps from the vehicle confirming the canceled setting. You can then re-set the memory height following the same procedure. For more information, please refer to “Before driving” in your Owner’s Manual. 2 HOW TO APPENDIX 117 MEMORY DRIVER’S SEAT (if equipped) You can set the driver’s seat and outside mirror position and retrieve them using the buttons on the driver’s door or the access key fob: To set a seat position with a button: 1. Check that the shift position is in P. 2. Turn the power switch to ON. 3. Adjust the driver’s seat and outside mirrors to your desired positions. 4. While pressing the “SET” button, or within 3 seconds after the “SET” button is pressed, press and hold button “1” or “2” until the buzzer sounds. To retrieve the seat position set with a button: 1. Check that the shift position is in P. 2. Turn the power switch to ON. 3. Press and hold either the “1” or “2” button until a buzzer sounds. The seat and outside mirrors are automatically recalled to your preferred positions. To set a seat position with the access key fob: In order to register the seat/mirror positions to the access key fob, first register the position to either button “1” or “2” using the preceding procedure. Carry only the access key fob you want to register with you to your Solterra (if both key fobs are in the vehicle, the position cannot be registered correctly). 1. Check that the shift position is in P. 2. Turn the power switch to ON. 3. Recall the position you want to record using the “1” button or “2” button. 4. While pressing either the “1” or “2” button, press and hold the door lock switch on the driver’s door until a buzzer sounds. To retrieve the seat position set with the access key fob: 1. Hold the access key fob. 2. Unlock and open the driver’s door. The seat and outside mirrors are automatically recalled to your preferred positions. Memory Seat Buttons HOW TO APPENDIX 118 SETTING THE CLOCK You can adjust the clock manually or set the clock to adjust automatically in the clock setting screen. To directly access the clock setting screen, select the clock in the status icons at the top of the multimedia display. Full directions for accessing the clock settings and adjusting the clock manually or automatically are given in the following sections. For more information, please refer to “Settings and registration” in your Multimedia Owner’s Manual. Manually To set the clock manually: 1 Select the Clock Display in the status icons bar on the display. 2 Select “Set time automatically” to turn this setting OFF. This allows you to set the time manually. Select “Set time manually” and make your desired adjustments to the time. HOW TO APPENDIX 119 Automatically To set the clock automatically: 1 Select the Clock Display in the status icons bar on the display. 2 Select “Set time automatically” to turn this setting ON. The time is automatically adjusted. HOW TO APPENDIX 120 SMART PHONE / SMART DEVICE CONNECTIONS Bluetooth® Pairing Adding a Bluetooth® Device 1 Select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then select “Bluetooth® & Devices.” 2 Select “Search for devices” if the device list is empty or “Add another device” if there are already saved devices. NOTE: If there are currently connected devices, a notification will warn you that all other connected devices will be disconnected. Select “Ok” to continue. 3 Select your device name on the list. 4 Confirm that the code displayed on the screen matches the one displayed on your device. HOW TO APPENDIX 121 5 Setting the device as the primary device allows your profile to be loaded automatically when you enter and start your Solterra. Select “Yes” if you would like to use the device as the primary device. 6 If you prefer, enable Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™. Allow the device to use Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ with the multimedia system by responding to the prompts on your device. If you do not wish to use Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ with the device, select “No” and respond to the device prompts to allow contact sync and messaging to set up as a hands-free device. HOW TO APPENDIX 122 Connecting a Saved Bluetooth® Device You can connect a saved device through the Bluetooth® and devices menu: 1 Select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then select “Bluetooth® & Devices.” 2 Select the device to connect on the list. 3 Select “Connect.” Managing Device Settings To manage settings for a device, select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then select “Bluetooth® & Devices.” Select the device to be configured to adjust the settings. To enable/disable Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ through the settings, select “Use for Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ .” If you select to use the device for phone or for media, CarPlay®/Android Auto™ are automatically disabled and the native phone/media on the device will be used. HOW TO APPENDIX 123 Connecting to Wi-Fi Select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then select “Wi-Fi.” 1 Select “Wi-Fi” in the sub menu. 2 Turn Wi-Fi on in the main area. Select the network from the “Available networks” list. Enter the corresponding password for the network. Wi-Fi Hotspot Internet access is purchased separately through AT&T with monthly, per gigabyte, and unlimited data options available. Existing AT&T customers have the option to add an additional line to their AT&T Mobile Share plan. Available on select models. Shortly after you take delivery of your new Subaru, you will receive an email from AT&T for a free trial and how to activate your free trial. To set up and enroll select the settings gear icon in the main menu, and then select “Wi-Fi.” 1 Select “Hotspot” in the sub menu. 2 Turn Hotspot on in the main area. Connect your tablet, smartphone or laptop to the Wi-Fi Hotspot and open your preferred web browser on the device connected. Your device will be redirected to AT&T myVehicle portal. Select “Get Started” to begin the trial subscription. HOW TO APPENDIX 124 APPLE CARPLAY Cables Cables must be an 8-Pin Lightning MFi Certified cable (made for iPod/iPhone). Look for the Works with Apple CarPlay or Made for iPod, iPhone, iPad icons when selecting a cable. For a list of compatible Apple phones and more information, visit: www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ Connecting an iPhone for Apple CarPlay® Apple CarPlay® can be used wirelessly by enabling CarPlay® when you add your iPhone through a Bluetooth® connection (see page 121). You can also use CarPlay® by connecting your iPhone to the USB port in the center console wireless charging area. Enable Siri and connect the iPhone via USB in the wireless charging area. It may take about three to six seconds to return to the original screen, depending on the smartphone being connected. If guidance is displayed on the smartphone or multimedia screen, follow the operation instructions. HOW TO APPENDIX 125 ANDROID AUTO™ Cables Always use a high-quality OEM USB cable. Ensure the Android phone is fully up to date. Also verify that the Android Auto app, along with all other apps that work with Android Auto, are up to date. Android Auto might not function properly if one of them is outdated or having an issue. The apps can be downloaded from the Play Store. For a list of compatible Android phones and more information, visit: www.android.com/auto/ Connecting an Android Device for Android Auto™ Android Auto can be used wirelessly by enabling Android Auto™ when you add your Android device through a Bluetooth® connection (see page 121). Confirm Android Auto™ is installed on the smartphone and connect the smartphone via USB in the wireless charging area. HOW TO APPENDIX 126 NAVIGATION Finding a Destination By Address/Keyword Start by selecting the navigation button in the main menu or switch to the map screen by saying “Hey Subaru, show the map.” To find a destination by address or keyword, follow these steps. 1 Select the voice search button on the map screen or say “Hey Subaru”. 2 Select the keyboard “Search Navigation” bar. The Keyboard can be used when the vehicle speed is less than 5 mph. If the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph, use a voice command instead (e.g., Hey Subaru find restaurants near me). 3 Enter the address or use a keyword to search for a point of interest (for example, coffee or restaurant). 4 Scroll, if needed, to view additional options and select the desired location from the list. HOW TO APPENDIX 127 Finding a Destination By Category Start by selecting the navigation button in the main menu. To find a destination by category, follow these steps. 1 Select the voice search button. 2 Select “Destinations.” 3 Select the category of the destination from the list. HOW TO APPENDIX 128 4 Select the desired location from the list. 5 Select “Go Now” to begin navigation. You can find a destination by dropping a pin on the map screen: Zoom out on the map (pinch or zoom out button) or scroll to view a broader map area. Select and hold a location on the map with your finger to drop a pin at the specific location (destination icon appears). Select “Go Now” to begin route guidance to the selected location. HOW TO APPENDIX 129 Starting Route Guidance Once a destination is found, the full route map screen is displayed. Select “Go Now” to begin navigation. The full route map screen also gives you other important information and options: 1 Route Traffic: Displays the level of traffic congestion on the route with colors. 2 Go Now: Select begin to route guidance. Select and hold to start demo mode. 3 Share Route: If your smartphone is connected to the navigation system, select “Share” to share the route with a registered contact. 4 Call: Select to call the phone number registered to the destination/Point of Interest. 5 Save: Select to register the destination as a favorite 6 Directions: Select to display the directions list. 7 Alternative Routes: Select to see and choose alternative routes. HOW TO APPENDIX 130 Adding a Stop Along the Route You can add a stop during route guidance using Intelligent Assistant by requesting to add a specific point of interest (POI) along the route. For example, Say, “Hey Subaru, add Starbucks to the route.” You can also search to add a POI manually: 1 Select the drop arrow to view POI specific options. 2 Select “New Stop.” 3 Initiate a voice command for a POI search. HOW TO APPENDIX 131 4 Scroll through the POI list and select your desired stop. 5 Select “Go Now” to add the stop to your existing route. Navigation will recalculate and resume guidance with the added location. HOW TO APPENDIX 132 Finding an EV Charging Station A banner notification appears when battery charge is low, along with nearby EV charging stations on the map. You can select an icon on the map or the menu list for a list of charging stations. You can search for a charging station any time by simply saying, “Hey Subaru, find charging stations.” HOW TO APPENDIX 133 Map Information and Route Options You can access and customize the information shown on the map screen. Select the menu button in the bottom right corner of the map screen to turn the traffic information on/off, make a call to destination assist, or go to the navigation settings. In the navigation settings you can adjust the map details displayed during navigation, such as speed limits, traffic incidents, or nearby parking, and you can customize route options. HOW TO APPENDIX 134 Adding Home/Work For added convenience, you can add your home and work address to the navigation system through the Solterra Connect app on your smartphone.
