Summary
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2022 WRX vehicles equipped with the “Eyesight” feature. The owner’s manual may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist function. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Subaru will mail an owner’s manual insert containing the correct information, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 15, 2023. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru’s number for this recall is WRA-23.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is initiating a new safety recall for certain 2022 model year WRX vehicles equipped with EyeSight®, which may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist (HBA) function.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NON-COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY RISK
The owner’s manual may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist function. As a result, affected vehicles do not comply with FMVSS No. 108 – Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment; Section 9.4.1.1 Operating Instructions.
Incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist function contained in the owner’s manual may cause the driver to misunderstand the system status, increasing the risk of a crash.
REMEDY
Subaru will send affected customers an owner information kit insert containing the correct information, which can be installed in the original owner information kit by the customer. As an alternative option, a customer may have a Subaru retailer install the corrected insert, at no cost to the customer.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
A total of 4,615 U.S. vehicles will be included in this recall as listed below. Not all vehicles in the production range listed above are affected by this recall. Coverage must be confirmed by using the Vehicle Coverage Inquiry function on subarunet.com prior to repair. This information is now available.

RETAILER RESPONSIBILITY
For affected vehicles in retailer inventory, and as an alternative option for customers who prefer to have a Subaru retailer install the corrected insert, a printable copy of the corrected insert is depicted on the last page this message.
Please be advised that it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle covered by a recall under a sale or lease until the defect is remedied. Therefore, any Authorized Subaru Retailer failing to perform the applicable service procedures to correct all affected vehicles in their inventory prior to the vehicle being placed in service may be subject to civil penalties of up to $22,423 per violation (i.e., for each vehicle), as provided in 49 CFR §578.6 and will also be in breach of the Subaru Dealer Agreement.
Any vehicles listed in any recall/campaign that are in retailer stock must be:
- Immediately identified
- Tagged or otherwise marked to prevent their delivery or use prior to repair
- Repaired in accordance with the repair procedures outlined in the Product Campaign Bulletin
Retailers are to promptly perform the applicable service procedures, to correct all affected vehicles in their inventory (used, demo & SSLP). Whenever a vehicle subject to this recall is taken into retailer inventory necessary steps should be taken to ensure the recall correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Subaru will notify affected vehicle owners by first class mail within 60 days. Owner notifications will be mailed with a copy of the corrected owner information kit insert. Retailers will be advised when owner notification is scheduled.
RETAILER PROCEDURE:
In cases when a customer requests the retailer installation of the corrected owner information kit insert, retailers are required to print out the English owner information kit supplement found on page # 4 of this document. Place the printed information with the vehicle owner information kit.
SERVICE PROGRAM IDENTIFICATION LABEL:
Type or print the necessary information on a Campaign Identification Label. The completed label should be attached to the vehicle’s upper radiator support. Additional labels are available through normal parts ordering channels. The part number is MSA6P1302, which comes as one sheet of 20 labels.
Chronology :
October 2022 – Subaru became aware of a potentially inaccurate description regarding the operation of the High Beam Assist (“HBA”) function in the owner’s manual.
November – December 2022 – Subaru conducted analysis to determine all affected owner manual versions.
Subaru began a port rectification program for inserting the corrected page of the owner’s manual in affected vehicles. The remaining population of vehicles was determined using the data provided by each port.
January 13, 2023 – Subaru decided that certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements set forth in FMVSS 108. Subaru is not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes or injuries resulting from this condition.

-., How to temporarily lower the sensi tivity of the high beam assist func tion (models with the EyeSight sys tem)
The sensitivity of the high beam assist function can be lowered by using the following operations.
1. After turning the ignition switch to the “ON” position, set the light control switch to the “AUTO” position and push the signal lever forward (high beam position).
2. After the high beam assist indicator on the combination meter will illuminate, turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position and within approximately 15 sec onds, press the”/fl/ “(following distance setting) switch more than 10 times con secutively.
When the sensitivity of the high beam assist function is lowered, the high beam assist indicator light’!(!)” on the combina tion meter display (color LCD) will flash. SUBARU CORPORATION, TOKYO, JAPAN

• The sensitivity of the high beam assist function cannot be lowered in the following conditions.
– Cruise control or Adaptive Cruise Control indicator is illuminated.
– The EyeSight warning indicator (yellow) is illuminated.
• The sensitivity of the high beam assist function returns to normal level the next time the ignition switch is turned to the “LOCK”/”OFF” position and the engine is restarted.

The owner’s manual may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist (“HBA”) function. The basis for how the recall population was determined:
Potentially affected vehicles were identified using vehicle production and port rectification records. -How the recalled products differ from products that were not included in the recall: Vehicles not included in this recall are either equipped with a correct owner’s manual or are not equipped with the HBA function. The recall population includes certain 2022 model year WRX vehicles. The number of potentially affected WRX vehicles is 4,615. Production Dates : FEB 25, 2022 – DEC 07, 2022

function contained in the owner’s manual may cause the driver to misunderstand the system status, increasing the risk of a crash.

October 2022 – Subaru became aware of a potentially inaccurate description regarding the operation of the High Beam Assist (“HBA”) function in the owner’s manual. November – December 2022 – Subaru conducted analysis to determine all affected owner manual versions. Subaru began a port rectification program for inserting the corrected page of the owner’s manual in affected vehicles. The remaining population of vehicles was determined using the data provided by each port. January 13, 2023 – Subaru decided that certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements set forth in FMVSS 108. Subaru is not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes or injuries resulting from this condition. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Subaru will send affected customers an owner’s manual insert containing
the correct information, which can be installed in the original owner’s manual by the customer. As an alternative option, a customer may have a Subaru retailer install the corrected insert, at no cost to the customer.
Subaru will provide reimbursement to owners for repairs according to the general plan submitted in May 2022.

(Subaru) is initiating a new safety recall for certain 2022 model year WRX vehicles equipped with EyeSight®, which may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist (HBA) function. DESCRIPTION OF THE NON-COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY RISK
The owner’s manual may contain incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist function. As a result, affected vehicles do not comply with FMVSS No. 108 – Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment; Section 9.4.1.1 Operating Instructions.
Incorrect instructions for adjusting the sensitivity of the High Beam Assist function contained in the owner’s manual may cause the driver to misunderstand the system status, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY
Subaru will send affected customers an owner information kit insert containing the correct information, which can be installed in the original owner information kit by the customer. As an alternative option, a customer may have a Subaru retailer install the corrected insert, at no cost to the customer. AFFECTED VEHICLES
A total of 4,615 U.S. vehicles will be included in this recall as listed below. Not all vehicles in the production range listed above are affected by this recall. For affected vehicles in retailer inventory, and as an alternative option for customers who prefer to have a Subaru retailer install the corrected insert, a printable copy of the corrected insert is depicted on the last page this message. Please be advised that it is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle covered by a recall under a sale or lease until the defect is remedied. Therefore, any Authorized Subaru Retailer failing to perform the applicable service procedures to correct all affected vehicles in their inventory prior to the vehicle being placed in service may be subject to civil penalties of up to $22,423 per violation (i.e., for each vehicle), as provided in 49 CFR §578.6 and will also be in breach of the Subaru Dealer Agreement. Any vehicles listed in any recall/campaign that are in retailer stock must be: • Immediately identified
• Tagged or otherwise marked to prevent their delivery or use prior to repair
• Repaired in accordance with the repair procedures outlined in the Product Campaign Bulletin Retailers are to promptly perform the applicable service procedures, to correct all affected vehicles in their inventory (used, demo & SSLP). Whenever a vehicle subject to this recall is taken into retailer inventory necessary steps should be taken to ensure the recall correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle. Subaru will notify affected vehicle owners by first class mail within 60 days. Owner notifications will be mailed with a copy of the corrected owner information kit insert. Retailers will be advised when owner notification is scheduled. RETAILER PROCEDURE:
In cases when a customer requests the retailer installation of the corrected owner information kit insert, retailers are required to print out the English owner information kit supplement found on page # 4 of this document. Type or print the necessary information on a Campaign Identification Label. The completed label should be attached to the vehicle’s upper radiator support.
