Summary
This bulletin announces design change to the water pump assembly.
INTRODUCTION:
This bulletin announces design change to the water pump assembly. An adhesive has been deleted from the pump to gasket contact surface to prevent any premature deterioration of the rubber gasket. If a coolant leak is confirmed to be coming from the water pump area, use the information outlined below for the correct course of action.
PART INFORMATION:
Part Description | Part Number |
Water Pump Assembly | 21110AA511 |
Water Pump Gasket | 21114AA100 |
NOTE: The water pump assembly comes with a new gasket. The water pump gasket can also be ordered separately.
REMINDER: Always order the most up-to-date replacement parts based on the specific VIN being repaired.
SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs.
WORK PROCEDURE OUTLINE:
WORK PROCEDURE PRECAUTIONS:
- Do Not apply any adhesive to the water pump gasket or pump surfaces.
- Ensure correct fitment of the gasket prior to pump installation by confirming the gasket is fully secured within the pump groove without any “floating” and/or “dislocation.” See EXAMPLES listed below.
The service procedures for water pump assembly replacement remain unchanged. Always refer to the applicable Service Manual and review the full requirements of the repair being performed. The Service Manual procedures contain information critical to performing an effective repair the first time, every time. This includes but is not limited to important SAFETY precautions, proper inspection criteria, necessary special tools, required processes and related one-time-use parts needed for a complete and lasting repair.
Refer to STIS: Engine > COOLING > Water Pump
CAUTIONS:
- ALWAYS inspect the mating surface of the pump assembly after installation. Confirm the gasket is not pinched in any area.
- It is normal for some coolant seepage to be detected after replacement. This is due to the mechanical seal break-in procedure which can allow a small amount (less than 9cc) of coolant to seep up to 1800miles (3000km) after pump replacement.
