INTRODUCTION
This bulletin provides a procedure for diagnosing and repairing a rattle-type rear suspension sound determined to be coming from the upper control arm ball joint. A revised torque specification for the ball joint retaining nut / bolt set is also included.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION
- Once the condition has been confirmed, remove both rear tire and wheel assemblies for access to the suspension components as BOTH sides of the vehicle must be inspected.
- Remove the nut and bolt securing the upper control arm ball joint to the bearing housing as indicated in the illustration above.
- Rock the upper arm and the bearing housing as necessary to check for any looseness or free-play in the upper arm ball joint.
- If any looseness in the ball joint is visible or felt, replace the upper arm assembly for that side of the vehicle following the procedure outlined in the applicable Service Manual.
- ALWAYS install a NEW ball joint retaining nut and bolt set then torque to 90 Nm (66.4 ft. lbs.).
- Repeat steps 2 through 5 for inspection / repair to the opposite side of the vehicle.
