SUBJECT: | Design Change to the Fuel Filler Door Assembly |
INTRODUCTION
This bulletin announces a design change to the fuel filler door (saucer) assembly to address customer concerns of it being difficult to open and / or close. The striker portion’s shape has been changed as shown in the crosssection illustration below along with the type of plastic material used in the construction of the saucer assembly.
IMPORTANT: This bulletin replaces TSB 09-58-14R dated 9/26/14 and 09-60-15R dated 10/26/15.
PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:
The new saucer assembly was incorporated into production during August, 2015 starting with the following VINs: Legacy: G*005915 and Outback: G*208318.

SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION
If a complaint of the fuel filler door being hard to open or close is confirmed, replace the saucer and lock ring (seal) assembly along with a new “Unleaded Fuel Only” label using the applicable parts listed above. Follow the repair procedure outlined in the applicable Service Manual’s Security and Locks section.
NOTE: The plastic lock ring shown below which is INCLUDED with the new saucer assembly is a one-time use part. If needed, the lock ring is available separately by ordering p.n. 51467AL07A.
- NEVER attempt to re-use a previously installed lock ring.
- ALWAYS take precautions to protect the vehicle finish when removing and installing the saucer assembly.
- Affix a new “UNLEADED FUEL ONLY” label to the inside of the fuel door as shown. Always clean the area with a mild solvent on a clean shop cloth and allow to dry before application.
